Easiest way to hit the heart

I am a bit stuck on a mission to shoot three sitka deer through the heart. I know where to aim, but I seem to keep missing it. What is the best weapon to ensure actually hitting the heart? I thought buckshot up very close would do the trick due to its spread, but I don't know if a more powerful well-placed rifle bullet or arrow is better.

(Also I don't know if it's anything special with sitkas, because for last year Valentine's, I could get all ten animals through the heart easily - except for the sitka buck, where I took 13 animals and none of them were hit in the heart.)

A more powerful rifle round or an arrow is probably your best bet, buckshot usually doesn't penetrate deep enough to hit the heart in my experience.

Try to deploy a stand on a wood (around the southern lodge is possible), and call the sitka exactly under the stand. If you stand up while inside the stand, its possible to aim exact under yourself 90 degree on the deer. Simple aim beetween the two front legs on the spine, most of time results in a heart shot,with any weapon.
Another way to try a buckshot from left side, little bit over the front leg.
By the hunter wiki on the organs for the position of the heart shot, the deer species are the same, I have made this quest with a rifle (the 7 mm magnum B/A) , just need to call them close ~15 m....maybe simply you had bad luck.
But overall, by my late game experience, the easiest way for a heart shot is a 90 degree vertical shot from a tree stand. Good luck!
