It is a good spot because its only a few minutes walk Downstream from the lodge to get above the island on the western side, allowing long range shots from on top of the big rocks on the high open hill side. There is nearly always a bear or two around the island even without a bait barrel there , and also deer foxes and rabbits regularly frequent the island and riverside there.
He he he, good one. Polar bears are also always happy to see you.
I took my baiting barrel to the spot on the isand just under the ruined castle, which I mentioned earlier. I think the spot was okay but now great. I usually managed to harvest two or three bears there in the first 30 minutes from arriving (By shooting anything bear I met without being selective). Among those where some quite sizeable males, but also no awesome ones. After this first time of 30 minutes bears only came in very scarecely. I guess this is due to the location of the spot in the valley, where the mountain ridges to the left and right limit the space from which bears can be drawn in.
To sum it up, I am quite happy with the turnout, but I guess I will not come back to bait bears in this particular spot too soon, maybe I will try some Hemmendal spots next.
I also bought some tents in the meanwhile, so accessibility will no longer be a problem for future baiting operations.
