.17 mag
Is the .17 worth buying, or would the .223 cover all the same small game?

Have used the .223 for turkey and coyote on WH prior to the .17hmr release. You can also use it on roe deer, so for places like VdB and HF it becomes an option for just that reason and of course fox hunting (you've probably realised by now that you want to cover as many animals possible with the fewest number of guns - unless you're targeting something specific). What I like most about the .223 is its knock-down power over long distance and it shoots very flat. The trade-off with the .17hmr is mostly the spook radius I would say and then of course the .17hmr has the ability to swop out ammo for rabbits and birds.

Nowadays the only time I really use the .223 semi-auto is for goat hunting / culling. Otherwise it's the .17hmr most of the time.

EDIT: Forgot, I also use the .223 for combo of arctic fox and dahl sheep on WR at times.

So it sounds like they both cover a pretty decent range then? That's exactly what I'm looking at, the best bang (variety of species) for the buck. As much as I love the .17 cal and lever actions, it sounds like the .223 might be a better call. I don't really like shooting grounded birds.

When you open the game, click on the help button on the right (far) side of the bar with the start button on it.
Go to the hunter wiki and open the link.
Scroll down and open the weapons link .
Click on any of the pictured weapons to get a full description of the animals and ammo that are permitted for that weapon.

Spend about the next three days reading all about everything you ever needed to know (or not) from all the other information included in the wiki.

Yeah, thanks Dan. I already knew this, but it's good info.

Really, I wanted to hear how people felt about each weapon. It'll prolly still be a while before I can afford to buy one. In this game though, it's like buying a real weapon. You gotta research before you purchase.
