I do lots of hunting with my longbow, so I make lots of questionable hits, but they always die eventually. Almost always before I find them.

That's gotta be a serious game glitch. Have you validated your file cache?
I've never seen anything like this before.
I had a hard time finding sambar and rusa stags(apparently, they're not called bucks, to my surprise,) but I took mine with the .243. I had great difficulty even finding them, without the appropriate calls or camo, but once I took the shot, they went down as most deer would.
This is clearly some sort of error, either on server or player-side. No animal should survive that many arrows, much less a vital hit with a 7mm.
Have you contacted support?
The 30R or the 45/70 will give you double lung on Sambhur way out past 200 metres and drop them on the spot. 45/70 lever being slightly better, fits the biggest scope and it is permitted for Pigs, Banteng, and Bison as well.

But my choice for Piccabeen is the 30 R, as I dont usually hunt Buffs or Banteng, but I pair it with a crossbow just in case.
If I do take the 45/70 to piccabeen I also pair it with a crossbow, 30R 0r 7mm, because its not permitted for Rusa.
There has long been a problem of animals occasionally ignoring a shot, if the first dosnt work you can expect the subsequent shots to have little or no effect either. Tends to happen mostly in Multi player sessions along wih dead animals becoming invisible or not allowing you to confirm the kill. Goes way back to when Multi player was first introduced.
Though I do, obviously, need to amend my previous post. I could have sworn I used the .243, cause that's what I use 90% of the time for the free ammo. Clearly that's not possible. That would mean I used either my Enfield or, more likely my Mauser. Sorry for the erroneous claim. I'm surprised nobody called me out on it.
Is a heart shot always an instakill? I would understand why they would program that, but that's not the way it really works.
The first whitetail I bagged (irl) ran about 20 feet, stopped, and looked around before it dropped dead on the spot. At first, I thought I'd missed. I was using a youth model .243 firing rounds with the green 'ballistic tip.' (I've always wondered how much of a difference that little piece of plastic could make. Seems pointless.) When we field dressed it, we saw I'd pierced the heart. Only lasted a couple seconds at most, but still, adrenaline is some crazy ♥♥♥♥. It's always stuck with me how it looked back just before it collapsed. Sadly poetic, really.
Ps sorry I missed the IRL. Yeah in Rl a heart shot can still run, mostly if the animal has seen or smelt you and is already hyped up with adrenalin. But in game you are rewarded with an instant kill for good shot placement.
That kill was in reality. I don't have COTW, I've just been eyeing it hungrily for a long time. Why? Does COTW have a more complex bleeding system?
