.340 magnum vs 45-70 lever action, wich one would you buy and why?

I'm kind of deciding between these 2 rifles, usualy I go by looks if I'm not sure but both of these rifles are gorgeous! So wich one of these 2 would you pick and why? Thanks!

personaly and this is just My op I find the 45/70 has slightly more power , but I find at range thw .340 is slightly better....also and though this dose mean a thing I love the sound on the .340 lol

I am biased as I got a .45/70 and its my favourite gun. it might help if you lookup some videos by ron mctube or hoocairs to compare them

I spent most of last week testing both these rifles against Sambhur on Piccabeen Bay.
I would make the following observations.

The 45.70 does not have the same penetration at long ranges as the 340 but the damage is greater and it will bring down the animal quickly even with a bad shot. Single lung shots are more common.
It also takes the 12 power scope.
The lever action is fairly fast but not as fast as the 30.06 lever. 5 shot Mag.

The 340 is devastating out to render and will punch double lung shots at max ranges.
It only takes the slightly smaller scopes.
The bolt action is definitely slower than the lever.
3 shot mag.

Because I like to shoot animals when I see them, No messing about calling them in, I prefer the 340 for its longer reach.

I don't currently own the .45/70, but from what I've heard it's excellent. I do own the .340, and it's perfect to taking down big game such as moose, bison, water buffalo etc.

the 405 looks good but the no scope option will limit the long shots imo.

.340, same reason as danthemanboone, also like the rifle for oneshot kills on hogs and boars that are far off in the distance but that's personal preference more than anything else.

i would go for the 340 i use it my self on big game works perfect every time

How are the irons, If I only use the rifle as a stopgun I want devistating effekt and Ironsights. I have shoot a brown bear that was about charge with the .300 and scope. aimed center of mass but hit brain and lung. If I wasn´t looking for red fox my second slot would have been the .30-06 level action. I know i can get it ready fast and hit with that one even if it has to be a fast shoot.
