Team Fortress Classic (henceforth referred to as TFC) was NOT a 'sequel' to QuakeWorld: Team Fotress (QWTF) it was a simple port when valve bought out the team behind the mod (same was done for the CS team)
Brotherhood of Arms was never 'pulled' it suffered the same fate as HL2, DoD, Ricochet, literally anything that wasn't popular at the time (see: everything except CS) valve operates in a very different manner than all other game developers out there, they do not have any sort of heirarchy and people simply choose which projects to work on with very little oversight on what is getting done, most of the finer details on their operations are unknown, but you can get more information on that here (I won't go into details as this is more than enough information to tell you how they manage their employees and that isn't what we are here for)
I won't argue that it wasn't an upgrade, however it was very much a hackjob, of what little information we can see, it was turning into more of a 'military' style, and the graphics were very much on par with what we were seeing in CS/DoD at the time (some could argue the graphics were worse, but this was pre-alpha/alpha at that time)
The game was 'announced' as in-developement in mid-to-late 2000, keeping in mind everything they confirmed to add to the game[web.archive.org] it is not surprising at all it was scrapped after they spent all of their time making this on the goldsrc engine, they did not want to port it over to the source engine.. I do not blame them one bit for scrapping it.
I am wondering what sort of brain disease you have to make you think that what they have shown would make you think this game was going to be in any way shape or form similar to counter-strike? they don't have the same artstyle at all, with all the maps played in CS, I would call that game a turn-based desert shooter, TFC has always been about fast paced, explosion flinging action, even in the alpha demos there is no indication of this playstyle changing at all, the games are indeed as far apart as humanly possible.
I hope your ModDB group comes through and makes something interesting, all in all I would like to see what you can come up with and I hope even half the changes that were to come in BoA come to life, but please.. for the love of god.. do your research before spreading slander of this level. :(
Actually TF2 BOA Was a more like Counter strike. like a military theme and class based CS (With faster running). And it had the same art style as CS (just like TFC)
Also DoD and HL2 were VERY popular at the time.
And I think that making a TF2 BOA Mod would be great!
I didn't call it a sequel, I called it a remake. As in, where somebody takes an original work and makes their own version of it. I don't quite see how that translates into "sequel" as I'm not a major film/game production company, which doesn't know the difference.
Have you even seen what it looks like mate? It looks like fricking dust in the screenshot! i.imgur.com/G5kEJgH.jpg
Anyway, I've decided to work a little bit on "TF2: Brotherhood of Arms" as well, getting the player models ready for media and such. Been having a lot of fun working on it so far. So, as soon as we actually get some mapping and coding done on the mod, we'll probably set up a page for it. And also when Particle Fusion and Overturn are released, I have another mod in mind to work with, "Absolute Zero" (name is subject to change) set in a very cyberpunk/steampunk world in which robots are the dominant part of society, and the military has become an army of supersoldiers, robots with a human brain implemented into their bodies. Many people did not like this, however, and rebelled against the military's power. The "rebellion" went on to last for 10 agonizing years, the amount of rebels are growing as they have learned how to hack into the database of the supersoldiers to turn them on their side. You are part of the "Gamma" squad sent in to clear out an area of "The City" of rebel power. They have been in control for too long. It's time to teach them cheating bastards a lesson. Give them your opinion on hacking your buddies! Also the soundtrack will be composed by Hans Zimmer, kthx."
And that's all I've gotten so far. See you guys around.
