A Hat in Time

Please update the camera to let you look DOWN
The camera in game right now is driving me insane with its inabillity to be angled downwards.

I can press the look button (Y on my Xbox controller) and I will be able to get a good look at whatever is above me or to my sides... but for some godforsaken reason Hatgirl is completely unable to angle her head downwards and inspect her inevitable doom if I have to jump in every time to find whatever might be hidden down there.

I love this game a lot and I've 100% the game, but please add this quality of life fix for whatever new or recurring players you might have. A camera that doesn't let you look in the direction you want to look is not very useful in a platformer.

I really wish it had this also. The camera in this game is not very good... which makes that interview where they joke about how devs should just make a good camera pretty ironic.

What's odd is that you can look down while using a mouse to control the camera, but not when using a controller. If I ever need to look down I just use the mouse, but it is still a little frustrating that you can't do it with a controller.

The poor camera has cost me a couple of lives, especially on Death Wish. It's fully moveable with the mouse but also limited with my Switch Pro Controller for some reason.

Considering the control you get with the mouse and the number of areas and collectables that are down off ledges, it really is odd not being able to look down with a controller. It means players using a controller often have to make leaps of faith to try to reach those places.

From what you've described, you should be able to get the camera to look down by going to "Game Settings", find the section labelled "Camera", and for the option labelled "Top-Down Camera" change the setting to "None".

yeah the setting is entirely toggleable

am I the only one that always goes through the settings for new games??

Thanks for the tip man, I had no idea what that setting was for. After turning that setting off I got through the deep sea rift without taking damage, where as before I could not complete it due to the camera continuously screwing up.

The camera still has to be constantly babysat, but this is an enormous improvement.

This should really be the default setting.

all these controller users raging about their camera not looking down, when i, a keyboard and mouse user, can move the mouse to look down.

This is by far the worst camera I have ever used. I prefer Sonic Adventure and 2's cameras over this. It's infuriating. Hopefully they give us the ability to at least look down.

Set the freaking camera setting to "None" from "Top-Down Camera". It's under gameplay settings. Do you guys look through settings anymore?

Forgive me for not assuming that setting the "top-down camera" setting from "controller" to "none" would allow me to go "top-down" with my "controller."

Yeah blaming the player for a broken camera that can be partially remedied with a setting that says it does the opposite is a bit much.

I use controller and I eventually found the settings to allow me more freedom with the camera. After that any complaints I had about the camera controls went right out the window.

You mean predictive camera? I've already turned that off.

I have the "Top Down Camera" option set on none and I still can't look up and down with my controller, I also have disabled camera assist, how is it still not working?
