How do you recompile another creator's mod?
Hey,

It seems to be a recurring theme throughout these discussions whereby after a certain amount of time/updates, old mods crash the game. Whether that be at launch or, in my case, trying to launch a level from the mailroom.

When the game dies, an error box appears saying that "The mod needs to be recompiled by the mod creator." However, it's unlikely that mod creators will be staying on top of these releases and recompiling their mods continually. I'd like to be able to recompile the mod myself so that I can still enjoy this content without nagging the creator directly.

I've downloaded the "A Hat in Time - Modding Tools" however it isn't clear how one would go about "recompiling" another creator's mod. Perhaps I'm trivialising it and it's more than just clicking a button, but I (and no doubt others) would appreciate some simple instructions to navigate this issue ourselves.

Thanks in advance!

The rule amongst the community is that we are not allowed to recompile another user's mod unless we are given explicit permission to do so from the original creator. Even then, some mods contain data that steam does not include with the download for users. Depending on the mod, you might not have all of the contents of the mod to recompile it yourself (from what I've seen, this might only be custom assets but I am not 100% sure). If you specify what map you need recompiled, I might be able to reach out to them and get the problem sorted though!
