What always got me the most was timing my use of dweller mask in the final room. Often I’d clip into the stairs by doing it too late
Some major noticeable timesaves, obviously have the magnet badge:
1) first pon room, grab the pon after the 3 floating castles first, then make your way to the giant green castle one. Activate the mask just as you exit the roof of the castle and jump on the higher up part of castle, then position yourself to jump as high as possible to get the pon while dashing facing the platform way down below that will lead to the final pon in that room.
2) second pon room, by ignoring the shiny box and going under the archway for the pon at the top of the castle with dwellers mask needed, it provided an easy path to the pon on top of the leftward castle top which then also brings you via hook to where the shiny box would take you. Onc eyoure at the very top, Damage boost from the topmost flame while holding your movement stick to the direction of the hook so you can grab onto it.
3) third pon room, there’s no need to ever take the path starting with the springboard. Go up the ropes to the pon at the top of the ship, then jump to the falling platform and jump to the wood platform to make it to the next pon. Jump over the sea urchin and hook onto a lamp that’ll send you to a puzzle to get a pon. Retrieving it, continue upward and get the next pon. Then time a good jump and dash to get the final pon in the room in the castle way down below.
4) I always see people take the ice hat platform to the bottom after the 2nd pon in the final room, but jumping to the starfish with the sprint hat proved to be faster for me
5) i haven’t tested this yet but I’m pretty sure you can also use the 2nd hookshot you come across in the room to jump onto the top of the island instead of needing to go trough the spinning castles and fire gauntlet
Aha, very nice, so the hookshot in the final room DOES allow that. I didnt' feel like testing that out in my room from potential failure. Yeah, if we were to combine these two routes I think 60 seconds to spare could be quite possible.
I know you said you've done it by now, so I'm just going to treat this as a general discussion of this Death Wish.
I've about got it done. I came up with my own route, so it's not optimal at all. but there are a few things I found that might be faster. Here's a video where I almost do it... I just choke really hard at the end.

A few comments / things of note about my run.
First room: Wow, I felt soooooo cool with my tiny tower jumps, then everyone else uses respawning to go noticeably faster. That'd be unfair, if I didn't totally do that in Speedrunning the Illness and have no excuse as to why I didn't think of it now. : P
2nd room: @1:24 I really don't like blowing up that crate anddoing those wall jumps, so I found a different way up by wall jumping to the side of the arch and landing on the bottom ridge of that floating tower, then going up form there to eventually grab that hookshot point. No idea if it is faster or slower.
@2:06 About the jump I do before the spiky urchin tower of death, I have reached the footprint platform from the tower, skipping the platform with the squids altogether. But it's so finicky, I don't even try it. I feel like that might be the quickest way there though.
@2:13 When it comes to the spiky urchin tower of death, I wish I did my path better so we could see the time differences. I leave the one under the rotating things for last, and go back that way instead of the Ice Hat route. It is possible to grab that by jumping from the starfish, eventually landing on a spoke right next to the footprint platform. (I haven't tried it, but I wonder if it's possible to go from starfish all the way to the footprint platform.) In my video, I wasn't feeling it, so I landed on the upper spoke and stood there until things lined up nicer. Hopefully you can see where you could just fly under those things more gracefully and grab it if I wasn't a wuss.
3rd room: I'm stealing that superman route up the back for the start. I hate those wires, and want nothing to do with them. I've looked for better ways up, but never expected THAT to be possible.
4th room: @3:58 I lava boost right after the 1st Pon, instead of going down and back up with the Ice Hat.
Beyond that one lava boost, ignore all that. I have very little practice with the last part. Not much of that was decent at all, and after I pressed the Dweller hat too soon, I just gave up.
