A Hat in Time
Bizarre, Rare Flight Glitch
So a week or so ago I was playing in Mafia Town and had a run-in with a pattycake mafioso on a specific rooftop near the Tailor's. After trying to see if it could somehow interrupt it (I wanted to punch that jerk back!) I ended up in a weird state where I couldn't seem to jump, but I also couldn't seem to fall much either.

I'm attaching a video to this thread that will do most of the explaining of what exactly happened but I can supplement it with details: I’m wearing the patches that give me the no bonks, hookshot and the relic map but I don’t think that latter 2 matter. It doesn’t seem to work without jumping on that rope first. It’s not actually flight, it’s just really slow falling and all of my jumps move me up in height very slowly. Hats that can be used during a jump still work during this state, but not after doing a home attack. Pressing up or down on the dpad or using the ice cap resets your position to your last standing position before taking action.

I’m really interested in seeing if anyone else has found this glitch or is able to replicate it. I hope the developers catch wind of this and can maybe share what they think is going on, too because it is fascinating.

tl;dr watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwFTBKoPilk (There are timestamps in the description for some interesting points; flight starts at 3:34)

You shouldn't try to interrupt an animton that clearly isn't meant to be interrupted. You can't even attack the patty cake mafia as they are not enemies.

I've played many games and know how this glitch occurred. This kind of "floaty swift fly" happens in many games. I'll explain briefly. There is a invisible platform under u. The platform is not counted as "ground" so u will instead be "falling". If u observe carefully, u can see that u are moving with the falling physics instead of the running physics. e.g. U keep ur momentum when u move. But on ground, ur action is immediately stop when u release ur d pad. These kind of platform is usually the one formed the skybox(the box that restrict ur flying height). If someone find a glitch to pass through the skybox and stand on top of it, this glitch will occur. In normal games, u will move very slow in this glitch or u can't even control ur movement. In ur case, u have gone too far, at least the game didn't expected u to. There is a box above the water to let people pass through the box from below. Hope this helps u to acknowledge what happened

Yes I am aware that this is unintentional. Someone who punches you in the face in the middle of pattycake is def an enemy though lol

That's a good theory but to be clear, this glitch is caused by the interaction with that tight rope and mafioso at the beginning of the video, not by my interaction with the map boundary. My movement on the ground is normal aside from not being able to jump properly. The edge of the world had a slight upward push effect, but the discovery that I could jump to stay afloat was what led to me to start flying, which is indeed a slow fall. It operates on the same principles that you can see when I float around at the dock at about 1:16. My suspicion is that I am somehow operating on tightrope physics after the clamber animation or something to that effect.
The patty cake mafias aren't enemies. Their actor class extends the NPC class and not the Enemy class. Any actor that extends the NPC class cannot be killed.

Yes ok thank you I am still aware that he is not meant to be killed. I called him an enemy because he wasn't friendly, not as a way of menioning the underlying labels. The "lol" was to imply that I was not fully serious.

I have since replicated this glitch and it definitely seems to be caused by the tightrope. My most consistent method is to climb up the wall, jump so I hit the tightrope, then jump in front of the mafioso and mash B to interact. After the animation plays out, hold towards the direction of the wall that I fall past and mash R+A. It seems to interupt the fall into a clamber animation to climb over that wall. Then after you climb over, you'll be put in the same state as I was in the video. I'm interested in seeing if anyone else can manage to pull it off, too.
