A Hat in Time

In the end my opinion of Seal the Deal is unfavorable.
This will be difficult to being. So the setting is a great idea, the tone is fun and whimsical, the first and the second mission sound extreamly fun on paper, and the third is at least interesting. The art design is on point However on the game design part, it all falls appart. Each of the three levels started fun and became frustrating before I completed it.

First off, this set of missions should have had a map. Either a radar or one accessible through the menu, with icons for what each room contains (like the ones in level 2). The little ship hologram you're supposed to use in the first mission is way too difficult to make use of. Not only you have to find it, it doesn't tell you where to find corridors from one room to another. In the end I ended up lost on that level, because the tophat kept showing me that the last shard is on the outside of the ship...it was the one stuck in the fan in the lobby. Missing it sucked all fun from my mission by the end of it.

The second level has a very strong premise. If you described it to me, I'd say "this has to be one of the best levels in the game!". What single-handedly ruins it is the terrible navigation we get. Again, a proper map would have solved this issue. It is fine to attempt designing your levels so that they don't require maps, but this type of an interwoven, multi-level location just isn't the kind of map where you can get away with it. The arrows on the floor that I tried following kept turning in on themselves, switching targets randomly, and telling me to walk in circles. They especially have no idea how to deal with height. Just look at the roundabout way it tells you to run with the batteries. Instead of doing one jump downwards and going through a door, it will have you go around the ship and into the lobby. When I finally got all 20 tasks done I didn't feel "yay, I beat it!" but "Good, the game didin't screw me over this time". I didn't feel responsible for my failures, and had to memorize tasks and routes to be able to beat the mission, while actively keeping in mind to ignore the arrows.

Finally the third level. IT RUINED THE GIRL FOR ME. So far she was fun, aloof, childish, irresponsible and egoistical. But she wasn't a bad person. Then she goes and destroys a whole ship, ruins everyone's vacation, break's the captain's spirit, and takes prize for saving a few passangers while many probably die. This was way too much for me. The girl should've stolen an escape boat and rowed to the icebearg. Or, it should have been the seals who crash the ship.

As for the level itself it's interesting. You can break boxes only from one direction, which might be a bug. The camera is confusing and all of the jumping platforms are awkward. Generally it's not fun. However, it's interesting. It's a fine experience, so I guess it's not bad either. Gameplay-wise that is, the story of this one is still horrible. Generally speaking I will probably never replay the last level of the DLC, but I don't mind having had played it.

My opninion on the DLC:
I had fun in the main game which i completed today with 40 time pieces. So i started the dlc and i am stucked in the second act of the cruise because those arrows u mentioned dont really help much and i just dont know where is what all the time. Its really rng dependent what u get and
i dont like timed stuff. Im not even gonna try out the deathwish missions ... .

So for me personally the DLC wasnt good (Could only do Act 1 and the purple rift because i found the relics for that from the earlier chapters in the main game). The map design is alot worse than the main game.

Edit: Managed to do act 2 and 3 now. Still dont like the pathfinding and time limitations and RNG of act 2. Act 3 the ending time limit was also annoying.

i liked the level but the missions with in it are bad

and becoming a ship tilting terrorist doesnt really fit with who hat kid has been portrayed to be in the rest of the game

I was honestly shocked that hat kid would do that, not like, clutching pearls shocked but just surprised because of how uncharacteristic it was

I agree. The ship's layout takes more time to learn than the earlier missions provide. I love the concept of the second level, but in practice it feels a little tedious. The story set-up for the third mission also pretty out of character. Hat Kid is supposed to be adorable!! Not a jerk!!!

And man I'm glad for the tranquility mode because the camera is an obstacle unto itself. The UFOs and missiles from the stealth mission can surprise you by just dropping on your head. I want to like the DLC more but it's pretty rough in certain spots.

Oh and one last thing, the restart act button should default to a restart challenge button. Having to rewatch the intro/redo do the opening bits of a stage like Train Rush or just work to kill the character is just annoying, not challenging.

As far as the ship sinking thing goes, it seems it was an accident. This is clarified by reading her diary after the mission. However, even if it wasn't, it's within Hat Kid's character to be pretty single minded about her goals. It's not like she let anyone drown, it's just that she's not going to be kept up at night wrecking an extremely expensive ship to get her time piece.

I havent read the diary entry but I'm guessing she was trying to reach the time piece without realizing the iceberg would wreck the ship

And to be fair, the ship is called the "S.S. Literally Can't Sink"
Underline included.
