As said, it was only for the day it was released.
Now, should you really buy this DLC ? You should check evaluations to make your opinion : 75% of it is about Deathwish challenges...
- You want to play with a friend or a relative in local co-op : EDIT : no, don't buy it, the coop mode was released for free but the communication about it on the store is confusing ;
- You are an extreme hardcore tryharder and you like unfair, RNG challenges with artificial difficulties : Yes, buy it ;
- You don't care if the developers, or some players here, are paying off your head : yes, you can buy it ;
- You want to play only casually and discover more things the game has to offer, like the new chapiter or goodies : no, don't buy it, it's short and the contents are locked by the deathwish mode. And I have the serious feeling that half of the new timerifts are only in deathwish mode...
- You want to buy this to play with your children : please, certainly don't do that.
I had the chance to get it for free, but if I had the choice, I would have taken the Soundtrack Side B instead...
thanks for your input about the DLC tho
P.S. There is a reason its called death wish.
Yes, of course, as much as there's a reason that this kind of video exists. (Watch the channel, it's a good one)
What I reproach on deathwish are the unequal and dumb difficulty for each one, the frustrating issue of QoL (fast restart, etc.) and the communication about it and the "EZ" mode (Watch the video in the link above, Mark Brown explain it better than me). Most of contracts are hard just for the sake of being hard, instead of being a challenge : that's why we call "bad game design" in the industry. There is no middle ground here : it's either hard as heck or "ez pz" with 0 challenge.
I only wanted to warn the OP about what this DLC is really. All the goodies described in the store page are locked by the deathwish mode after all.
The only deathwish I got is towards the game designers and it's not a pleasant feeling to get from the game you felt for its cuteness and relaxing pace. So I got it, I either need to "git gud" (don't wanna, i'm good enough on games that were designed for that) or to "experience tranquility", like Zenyatta. But lesson learned, I'll stop rooting now for the game and studio future and do something else.
Back on track anyways the death wish mode was not created for casuals. It was for the fans who wanted more difficult levels and found the normal easy going levels too easy. I prefer the casual levels since i play this game with my three year old sister.
I see what you are saying here but you missed the point of the video. Did you really watched it? It was not about dark souls, but about communicating on how the game was designed and meant to be played, without taking players for lumps. Dark Souls is meant to be hard, since it was designed that way in order to feel accomplishment.
I understand that deathwish was made to be difficult, but there is a difference between something designed to be difficult, like Darkest Dungeon, and something that is ridiculously difficult just to brand "IM UNFAIRLY HARD LIKE MARIO CAT ! YOU CAN PLAY ME !".
Maybe it's what it was needed to bring hardcore players into the game, but I don't think the majority of the playerbase bought the base game for that in the first place. Well, whatever. Everyone's different, companies included.
