People are complaining about the Death Wish challenges, and my take on this is that people are not understanding that the normal difficulty should be considered to be the "Hard" difficulty. There's a reason why EZ mode doesn't have an actual penalty associated with it. There's no shame in using the easier mode if the default is too hard
I beat all of these extremley quickly. Out of all of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ levels in this DLC, people complain about the ones that are actually fun.
I found it easier to entirely skip the spider and just use the Hooks. You can learn from the first one onto the platform that you jump to that valve on, then climb onto the tap with the first of the three Hooks above it and hook from there. IIRC You could also entirely skip the third Hook and just jump to the ladder from the second.
Even doing it what felt perfectly I ended up finding myself with only 2-3 Seconds left when I got the Time Piece. That's I think what really grabs at me the hardest with the mode with the number of speedruns. Sure, I respect that it's supposed to be the hardest one but even then I still feel there should be a little room for error. It's really quite annoying to be partway into one and then a tiny error such as Hat Kid not actually grabbing onto something properly or whatever and I have to restart and watch all the cutscenes or whatever in between because of losing not even a full second.
Personally, I didn't have much trouble with the Arctic cruise. While playing Act 1, I was so happy that we finally got some "official" new levels that I wanted to take it all in. All the little details in the new level.
So instead of going straight for the objectives, I explored the ship and tried memorizing a bit the layout of the rooms, from which one you can get to a particular different one.
Even though I had little time left, I was actually able to finish Act 2 on my first try, combining the "arrow following" strategy with throughful knowledge of my surroundings.
And I think something similar applies to Death Wish. In the main game, it's okay to just go and do the levels normally. If a problem comes up, there's always a solution nearby. But since Death Wish is a remix of these older levels, I think it's not much to ask that you familiarize yourself with them first.
To practice for the Subcon well speedrun, I actually started playing the "normal" Act 2, carefully planning out my route without having to worry about a timer, and then I went back to do the challenge.
Getting the main objective wasn't that hard. But I do agree that the shortest time for the last bonus is a bit unforgiving. (I, too, only had about a second left to spare when I got it.)
For example, if you realize that at the start of the "She came from Outer Space" challenges you can just find the Ice panel that's near your starting position and use it to launch yourself all the way to the top in no time, you'll have a much easier time doing both the Speedrun and the Jumpless challenges.
(Another tip for the both challenges. There's that big banner you have to run across. The one where you scare the Mafia for the last time before he goes all the way to the end.
If you run up to the right most corner of that banner, double jumping and diving+dive cancelling fron there can actually get you on the 2nd platform, meaning you can skip the one with the 'wall jump tutorial'. Saves a lot of time AND jumps.)
Maybe just take the time to enjoy it? Do one a night or something? Practice makes perfect and this game has really sick mechanics so being good really feels good
(Bosses with one hit challenge is bullcrap btw)
This would of been the best way to implement it. Easy mode is how it starts. You beat to unlock with additional bonuses. Optional but further test your mettle.
Also, enough of this "git good" ♥♥♥♥ from a lot of you people. Your "I beat all the death wish challenges first try without any trouble" is just stupid and irritating and I don't believe a single one of you have done it so stop lying. No one cares about your epenis crap. Shove up it up your asses.
I care. Because they represent the demograph this DLC was directed at, and you're not.
None of us gives a ♥♥♥♥ about your whining and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so you can shove it up your own ass.
Actually wait, the devs do care - they added EZ mode and mods for you to fit your own skill set.
Enjoy cheating and leave the challenges to the big boys.
Sure thing, Donald Trump.
I think you were trying to make that an insult, but in this particular case, it's not.
Seriously, that Mega thing is insane. Even when I go to the very edge of the screen, I still get hit in the third version of this because his spin attack extends its AoE. If not for that attack, I'd have beaten him already.
I agree with others that DW's map should be fully unlocked to begin with, that way players can choose which order they want to do them. I think there's supposed to be 4 Community Rifts but I've only unlocked one for now because the others are blocked by insane DWs like Boss Rush and Train Rush.
So far, I've gotten about 3/4 of the "Snatcher medals", and I usually had way more than actually needed to unlock the next challenge. So if you're frustrated because of the '1-hit Mafia boss' or anything else, just leave it for later. There some extras that are actually very managable and nice, like getting all the pons and album pictures in the aforementioned community rifts.
