A Hat in Time

Any one else disappointed by the DLCs?
I feel like both DLCs for this game were a step backward from the base game. The first one was not great, just a fetch quests and unfun challenges. The second one was basically a scavenger hunt with nothing unique about it. Maybe I'm just disappointed because I felt like there could've been a lot more for both DLCs. Especially the second one.

Death Wish had some good stuff, like the low-jump count challenges, that switched up the gameplay, but mostly I was dissapointed that the rest of it seemed to be for masochists. Seal was fine, I liked it. Nyakuza Metro was maybe a little short, but I enjoyed it.

For me, DLC 1 was mostly underwhelming, and DLC 2 was great.

DLC 1 had the cruise ship, which was honestly kinda boring and annoying to actually play, and it was really short, death wish was pretty interesting, if sometimes a bit too extreme for me, all of the cosmetics it added were hella dope though.

DLC 2 has a pretty interesting level loaded with secrets and cosmetics, which I thought were really good, just kinda disappointed at the lack of an actual boss fight though, really underwhelming that the empress just dashes off, no fanfare whatsoever.

Also really like the online multiplayer. been playing through the game with a friend, and it's been pretty entertaining. Just wish more things were synced up.

At this point, I think gears are probably done with DLC, I think the plan was to add 2 new worlds, i'm kinda interested to see how they'd handle a follow up game.
Who knows, I'd love to see more, since I love this game. The kickstarter stretch goals only went up to two new chapters which we got, though.. it is paid DLC, so they can make as much as they want, really.

I wished it was four-five bucks in all honesty, finished within an hour and thought the boss was anti-climatic; Had fun but that falls short when it's over so soon.
I'd say wait until it's on sale but it's fun DLC nevertheless

I think the main problem with Metro was the ending. I was really expectating a fun boss with epic music, not an easy level rush.

I was hoping for a new boss fight and the ending was very weird.

DLC2 offered the perfect atmospheric free roam I wanted as well as fun collecting with stickers and co-op

I'm satisfied, for it being just $12 it gave me over 100 extra hours in this game.
100 extra hours? I pretty much 100%'d Nyakuza in like... a single day actually.

Unless you're also counting Seal The Deal and the Death Wishes which, eh, honestly don't really interest me. I did download a save to get the costumes though because I did NOT want to go through hell just for a costume.
If you like exploration and atmosphere, Nyakuza is amazing for that. Like, I don't mind the Alpine Skyline free roam, but it's not really an atmosphere I enjoy spending time in. I find myself just loading up and parkouring everywhere in Nyakuza.

I mean, A Hat In Time is a platformer, not a brawler. It focusing the DLC on platforming challenges rather than boss fights makes a lot of sense.

Nyakuza Metro is easily my favorite chapter, because it has fun platforming and just oozes atmosphere.

Meh, I didn't like exploring Nyakuza metro that much. There wasn't much to see.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I never mentioned anything about a brawler (nor did anyone else) I meant that I was expecting a bit more from the DLC as in creative challenges that we saw in the base game.

Nyakuza metro is by no means my least favorite level, but I'd put it and Arctic cruise below the base game in terms of quality.

the DLC's were all about modding, for me. Totally worth it, imo.

I enjoyed them, for the most part.

Now, for Seal the Deal, I agree with most of the community that the Arctic Cruise was underwhelming. Multiple fetch quests, a mere three acts, and no boss fight. I didn't enjoy it much.

I am, however, in the camp that actually likes Death Wish, and I love it to death (no pun intended). It effectively tripled the playtime of the game, and I'm not even a third of the way done with them. I'm one of those "smash-your-head-against-a-brick-wall-until-it-budges" gamers, so I fully enjoyed it.

Nyakuza Metro was probably of a higher quality objectively, and party mode is fantastic. The nine acts of the new area is also cool, even if they tend to blend together a little. While the lack of another boss fight is somewhat disappointing, the actual level Rush Hour itself is rather fun and climactic aside from that.

I really do wish that we could another boss, though. The bosses in the main game range from fairly decent duels to pecking brilliant showdowns, so I'd love to see more of what they could cook up. If they do another DLC, I definitely would want a boss fight.

Personally, I thought that Nyakuza Metro fit in pretty well with the base levels. It felt like a wide-open sandbox like Mafia Town, but with Alpine Peak's ability to tackle objectives in any order. It did feel slightly out of place to have so many mini-shops, but that really wasn't enough to make the level feel "off". There was the same basic run-jump-dive feel to the level design, and the theme was just crazy enough to mesh (Horror-Themed Woods, Mafia-run seaside resort, Crime-ridden Subway, Movie-studio World... fits right in with the rest)

The same couldn't be said for Arctic Cruise. The first mission alone seemed to take the length of two normal levels to complete, and the second mission is a trial and a half. This felt like a fan-made level expansion right down to the random characters from previous acts showing up for no discernible reason. I thought that the ship itself was interesting, and maybe breaking the exploration up into chunks (before tackling a huge ship-wide search) could have allowed for more familiarity with the layout. It's not bad, its just hard to think of it as anything but DLC.

Death wish was...interesting. The open-ended and fun gameplay of Hat in Time just feels weird in tough-as-nails courses. I felt the same way about this as I do about Mario Kaizo runs: I'm not good enough at the game to be required to pull off the weird tricks necessary for 100% completion. Yet its fun to have an additional challenge to work towards, and finding those crazy short cuts allows you to appreciate the mechanics.

I think as a flat out map nyakuza is the best map in the game by far its well made, full of detail and life, has a great atmosphere and is all around a well made map that takes advantage of under used mechanics.

I love the idea of the free roam maps but the one in the base game failed to live up to the concept until this came along and did them right. (my playtime and achevements dont represent my true play time I originally had the game on GoG but more mods and online convinced me to buy it again to get the steam version)
cpu.101 May 15, 2019 @ 11:50pm
Alpine Skylines is less of a "free-roam map" and more of a "series of levels linked to a single hub world that you return to".

Thats my point it never took much advantage of being free roam
