A Hat in Time
Anyone else find that the Peace and Tranquility message
sounds mean spirited, especially since you can't skip it? I used it once on a pon collecting mission because I thought that I needed to get all of the bonuses to unlock the next challenge. Shouldn't it just say something like, "Peace and Tranquility activated" so that it doesn't have a chance of offending players who are just curious about it and deter them from playing the game again? I'm kind of worried that the message might make my friends and others who I recommend the game to resent the game or not bother with Death Wish, which does have some fun challenges, if they come across it in a similar manner. Also, I don't think it should erase the bonuses that you did obtain on Hard Mode if you decide to try the mode out of fun or curiosity.

How is it "mean spirited"?

The wording sounds patronizing as well as the fact that you can't skip it. I've played a lot of games that have difficulty settings that don't give players unskippable screens or messages like that when they change it.

Some players (like myself the first time I tried Death Wish back when it first got released and when you had to get Death Wish stamps to progress in Arctic Cruise) could see the messages as passive-aggressive or sarcastic, but that's down to player interpretation imo and it's easy to see how they wouldn't be passive-aggressive/sarcastic.

It is intended to be said from the first person. I agree it can come off as mean spirited at first, but viewing it as purely matter of fact, it makes sense. It is not defeat into failure, merely statement of fact to segway into the later lines.

Really? I always saw them more as comforting. Especially the "I don't have to prove myself to anyone." line. "Life is Hard, life is stressful" also always just struck me as comforting, like the game acknowledging that life can be hard, so the game doesn't have to be.

Also, the "No one is around to help." line comes directly from this meme, as this is what Peace and Tranquility is based on:

You have a point, but wouldn't it be better for the game to just let players toggle between the difficulties without any message like other games do so that it can't be interpreted that way, or at least only make it un-skippable the first time? I mean I guess it doesn't bother me too much personally, but there are people who are more sensitive that I would like to show this game but might get insulted by that message. I guess I like the meme aspect of it but I'm still a bit worried about it for that reason.

It being unskippable is kinda dumb, I have to agree. I can't really say much outside of that, as I agree with you and your suggestions.

While i don't see it as you, i can agree on it needing the ability to be skipped.
