It's the first thing I thought of when I saw the flag, but there's nothing to really support it so if it was true it would be an unspoken lore thing that the developers would know.
And this is why people didn't want the flag. It brings toxic heated identity politics crap into a innocent cute game.
that's how I took it as well. probably old enough to be most people on Steams parent I'd imagine but its funny how some people just instantly jump into trans references when they see something like this as until I even read this thread it never crossed my mind.
Initially, as the game deals in Time, I thought moustache girl was hat kid from a parallel universe and that was how the story was going to play out and I thought the moustache might have been part of that, a little disguise, right upto the end I was still holding onto that theory.
