Is This Forum Really The Place For Politics?

Personally I fall into the camp of "I don't really get it but whatever, it's not as if it hurts me, so treat me with respect and I'll treat you with respect" on the whole trans thing. But when such a good DLC came out, it's a shame half the stuff on the forums is about this little thing instead of that.

If you're against trans, just ignore it, enjoy the game. It's a good game, a nice, wholesome platformer with a lot of love put into it.

If you're pro-trans, just ignore the people who are against it. They're strangers on the internet, who cares if they disagree with you.

I just want the forum to be about the game, really.

It's the most non-issue I've ever seen and people just want to use it as an excuse to feel self-important. It's not a central focus of the game, hell I didn't even know about it until all of this and I beat the DLC.

Probably not, but whatever. GFB can't win by banning it, and they lose somewhat less by keeping it. It's a ♥♥♥♥ storm either way. I mean, regardless of what people think, that's sort of the difficulty with identity *politics*. It takes mundane aspects of who people are and makes them into *political statements* rather than just statements of character or construction of the self. And given how humans are a bunch of tribalistic apes, I'd argue that viewing identity through a political lens actually leads to attacks on *people* rather than *policy*. Innocuous statements become political rather than personal. And yes, you can make the argument that every action or belief we hold is *ultimately* political in the end, because politics is what we call the chatter in the vast network of human relationships, that politics *is* the social fabric, and everything we do or believe will impact the people around us in some small or large way. But I think that's insanely reductionist, to the point of absurdity, and it doesn't lead to anything good. Politics is also about power and the choices we make as a collective, and that stuff makes humans combative. There's no if ands or buts about that fact. That's how it works. And why? I don't know. But there's a guess that I think is as compelling as anything. The argument goes that the dumb tribalism which permeates politics evolved because tribal disputes could easily end with one of the factions exiled (and therefore dead) or just outright killed. Sticking together, even if united by objectively bad or dumb ideas, proved more valuable for passing on genes than dispassionate reasoned discourse. Given that reality, framing everything through a political lens only serves to feed information towards a dangerous hair-trigger hostile reflex.

Which is a long way of saying this shouldn't be a place for politics, but it has become one due to how modern politics has come to work. They made what constitutes a political statement. So now others are going to weigh in.

GFB included JonTron despite the hate they got for doing that. They had a little book hidden in one of the time rifts entitled "proof of ethical consumption under capitalism." It was blank. And now they tucked two trans flags into the game. Yeah, I think they have their political opinions, but so does everyone else, and they're hardly trying to cram it down our throats. I can at least respect that, given how overzealous many artists/content creators/writers/whatever are these days. And the fact that they were able to keep JonTron in demonstrates to me that they can separate people from their politics, which is something society at large could benefit from.

I have finally located the entrance to the Nyaakuza metro (rather tucked away, must say), so I'll see how well I enjoy it.

Read some of the comments by the people whinging about the flag, and you'll see why ignoring bigotry is a bad idea. Stop acting as if both sides are equal and benign and transphobia isn't incredibly harmful to trans people.
