For her move where she goes underground, don't panic. Just move in a small circle and she will be too busy rubberbanding around to hit you
In 2nd phase when she throws a bunch of time pieces down to you, I find making a spiral motion toward her makes me never get hit and then be lined up to smack her right away.
In her final phase this move evolves and is more relentless but easier to avoid. I find moving a little in the direction I'm already going and then turning to dash toward her while spamming the homing attack button does wonders.
Her laser beam in 2nd phase can be best avoided by double jumping and dashing toward her. If you want to play it safe when the time piece "X"s fall with it, I like to jump once just as the beam spawns, double jump after I land to avoid the beam coming back, all while i keep moving in whichever direction im already going (usually left) to avoid the "X"..
An interesting tidbit for this is that the beam begins it's movement in the direction you are in in relation to it during it's startup, since it will always seek your location out. if you're to the left of the beam while it's powering up then it'll start going left. Same for right. You can use this to your advantage to know where the beam is headed. If you're confident, you can rush to the other side of the beam while it's powering up and force it to stall as it takes a moment to rubber band to your location.
In the final phase this laser beam becomes a 360 noscope beam, and the best way to deal with it is to immediately double jump the second you can and spamming the homing attack button.
She always does 6 groundpound shockwaves in her 2nd phase. Keep track of that to counter. Similarly, she only does 4 during the final phase and will ALWAYS follow it up with another move right away, so don't greedily punish her groundpounds at that point.
To best avoid the falling time pieces, it's really a matter of not overthinking them. They only rain in your vicinity and so long as you make small variations in your movements, you should be fine. Overall I like to spend the entire final phase moving leftward and adjusting for her attacks and movement.
So now that I know the bonuses...
I can imagine how no hat abilities is possible, it would just be harder never getting a break from super sonic speeds like that.
Since I certainly didn't take 3 minutes to beat the last phase, I assume the "Hyper Zone" refers to the area you fight Mustache Girl from phase 2 to the end of t he fight. I don't think I'd be able to do that without an unhealthy amount of practice. B y the way, does Time Stop slow down that timer? Probably not, but just want to check.
I'll be asking in the Boss Rush discussion if I should resume Boss Rush bonuses or finish Mustache Girl EX's bonuses. Oh, and thanks for the tips on running in one direction! That helped immensely!
Congrats!
Correct. Though, double jumping and dashing can be good ways to get a breather since only her time pieces really can hurt you from up there.
Yep. The timer begins the moment u enter the Seizure Warning Rainbow Skittle Stage, and ends the moment the screen goes white. Time Stop does not slow down the timer. You essentially need to be hyper aggressive, pretending there's a "Dont Miss your cue to attack" bonus you are trying to not fail as it's a very tight challenge even with hats.
Eh, it's up to you. Personally I did the Boss Rush stuff before touching the EX bosses. It's all about how confident you feel. Maybe do the No Hat bonus first so you may have an Endurance Test of the EX fight so that the regular fight WITH hats will be way easier. and no problem!
Out of all the "Bad Guys" that are executed every time Hat Kid dies, at least she gets to eat skittles in her dying moments. What does everyone else get? Super Spicy Water? Sounds terrible.
I'd just finish her EX variant for now. Otherwise you'll go to Boss Rush, have to get used to old timings, then have to re-remember the EX timings. Definitely don't jump into Seal the Deal. You're still not finished with Mustache Girl EX. Once you can perfect her battle, then you can worry about Snatcher EX 2: RNG Boogaloo.
I'm not sure if this comforts you or not, but both bonuses can actually be done in one run. Meaning, Bonus 2's time limit isn't a "live or die by one second" thing; you just need a clean run where you ideally don't miss any attack cues. It's kind of like Wound-Up Windmill in that way.
However, if you want to go faster, Brewing Hat is your friend. When she's doing Hourglasses in any phase, you can double jump up and hit her with a potion. Brewing Hat is also useful for Lasers; if you snipe her from afar, she won't teleport away like she usually does in Phase 2/4 when you get too close. You can't do much about the Mafia Ball phase; just know that the Mafia Ball returns to the arena where it last hit Mustache Girl, so you don't want to go too far while waiting for it. In the final phase, you can pretty much hit her with potions whenever (in my fastest run, I've even sniped her from afar when she's doing Shock Waves). You can also play a little aggressively because you're being healed. Also, when she's doing Teleport Slap, you can technically snipe her with potions, but it's kind of tricky, so I wouldn't worry about it.
I always used Time Stop Hat for the slap attack, it was the easiest, damage-free way to avoid the attack and gave me time to counter-attack. However, that won't work for either bonus: No Hat abilities is self-explanatory, and 3 minutes in Skittles zone would take too long! Any doable tips on at least avoiding it would help a lot! Also, which bonus should I do first if I fail to do both at once?
You're probably right about sticking with Mu (I think that's short for Mustache Girl) EX: It was hard enough for me to learn her attacks a first time, a second time would just hurt. Jumping into Seal the Deal was a kind of a joke, but it is kind of hard to tell which parts are jokes in text if you're not told directly, so it makes sense you missed it.
"You've gotten this far, kiddo, but I won't let you complete all of my contracts! I need your deaths to pass my eternal time, and I don't have many ideas for Death Wishes left!
Time you saw what I'm really capable of kid. SAY GOODBYE TO ALL THAT LUCK OF YOURS!!"
I'll not exactly planning on doing both bonuses at once, but it's nice to know I can if I manage to fluke it.
I actually forgot Brewing Hat could help with any bosses besides Mafia Boss and some of the normal bosses! Certainly nice to know I can basically end some attacks early with a counterattack (assuming I'm not doing the No Hat Abilities bonus at the time)!
I'm planning on doing all other Death Wishes before Seal the Deal, and Deep Sea Rift Collapse is looking really hard... Not to mention how I've heard about Crusin' for a Brusin'... Might include a "Bonus" section on the EX Help list for them when I beat this and Boss Rush.
Actually, I always recommend just using the Umbrella to counterattack her Teleport Slap, no Time Stop required. You have to be quick on the draw, immediately holding the direction she's in and hitting attack, but it's probably not as bad as you'd imagine. If you've made it this far, I think your reflexes are good enough.
And, yeah, I figured that doing Seal the Deal was a joke, but just in case. :P I thought you might be getting sick of Mustache Girl.
Deep Sea Rift and Cruisin' for a Bruisin' are for another day, but, at the risk of jinxing you, Deep Sea Rift has gotten a lot more lenient after the recent updates that slowed down the clock. The "all Pons" bonus is definitely still difficult, but you're definitely allowed to mess up now a few times, whereas before, you needed a fairly clean run. It's challenge is mostly due to its length and varied platforming and use of hats.
I know Cruisin' got some nerfs early on, but I'm not sure if anything has changed as of late. That one is also difficult due to endurance. Expect to lose a few times even after sinking 15-some minutes into a run. I'd try out the "Minimum Shippable" Achievement before trying the DW, if you haven't already. I'd also invest some time into "research" beforehand; learn the layout of the ship, shortcuts, and maybe watch some videos of other people doing the DW to learn the tasks. If you can watch other videos without feeling a sense of despair and panic, then you're ready to try it yourself. :P
Edit : Didn't see your other question about Mustache Girl. For which bonus first... I feel like Bonus 2 is usually meant to be more difficult, but I feel like the speedrun is easier, personally, since it can be made easier with potion spamming, but YMMV. Since it is possible to do both bonuses at once, maybe you could try Bonus 1 and see if you can happen to get Bonus 2 without getting too stressed about it if you're running out of time?
She always teleports 6-10 times and the sound of the teleport gets higher pitched every single time she does a teleport, and it'll be at its loudest "whistle" when she's about to teleport to you. I'd take a moment to study the sound of how she teleports to prepare for an attack, and since you cant do anything to her until she's about to hit you, you should focus entirely on Hat Kid ready to press the attack button. You'll have about a second to hit her once she does the final one to be in front of you and half the time she'll be behind you. You can even try double jump + homing attack if you're nnot comfortable with umbrella yet.
Go for No Hats first imo if you choose one. That way you'll be tested more on trying to survive and punish her, which should make 3 minutes substantially easier (fun fact, you can do all Death Wishes with both bonuses in a singular run besides for 2... Killing Two Birds and So You're Back)
Oh boy, Cruisin' is my absolute favorite Death Wish. in my guide, i went to the character cap trying to explain it haha. There's a lot of nuances that go on in that mission to pull it off spectacularly, and quite a bit of memorization.
Took about three tries, though I lost the 3 mnutes objective 1 or 2 hits into the final phase. Should be easy withh the Brewing Hat, right?
RIGHT?
MY SUFFERING NEVER ENDS.
And no. Pausing doesn't pause the timer. Nothing does besides dying (resets it), winning, or quitting
Go into settings and activate speedrun timer. The tiny timer in the top right is accurate to the timer
SOUNDS FUN.
Yeah, you definitely still need to keep dodging her attacks and your movement in mind. Maybe suggesting to play aggressively wasn't the best idea.
I think I mentioned that you need to double jump to hit her when she's doing Hourglasses; single jumps won't work at all, and you'll want to keep moving in the circle/zig zag once you land. With lasers, if you want to be cautious, I'd still do the single jump over the initial laser sweep, then jump towards her and, at about halfway towards her, instead of dashing to chase her away, throw the potion. If you're not confident with the potions, working towards not missing an attack cue is even more important, I think. In all phases but the last, you shouldn't be missing too many opportunities to attack.
If you want something of a "timeline," on my runs with both Bonuses, I usually start the Cherry Bomb phase at around 1 minute in. The last phase usually takes me to 2 minutes, and so the final phase is the last minute remaining. So that's probably the max amount of time for each phase.
Oh so that's the glitch I found on my fastest run through. Fascinating. :P That was a few months ago, so, yeah, I can't say either if it's still here. I might try some science later.
I only found it once during the transition to the last phase, so it's rare for me at least.
Her shock wave attack, at least in the final phase, can be counterattacked mid-attack with Time Stop! Also, I recommend only using Brewing Hat for her Dark Time piece throwing attacks to avoid the hit box glitches.
With this boss out of the way, I think I'll go back to doing Boss Rush bonuses either tonight or tomorrow. Though tomorrow may seem more favorable, you can't underestimate excitement's ability to compel me to keep playing.
As a note, I have 80+ hours in this game, and here I was thinking 46 hours in Cuphead was nuts!
