Excluded from family sharing - why?
The game looks pretty good but it's a bit frustrating that it is excluded from family sharing. A game like this I'll likely play on my media PC in the living room, which has it's own steam account. I pretty much share my entire library across to it. I can't think of a good reason why you'd exclude something from the family sharing option.

Because I know people who use Family Sharing as basically another form of piracy.

It sounds stupid but hear me out. Friends on the internet that have never met each other will share emails just so someone can leech a ♥♥♥♥ ton of free games off of them.

What a lame thing to do, I'm glad I discovered this before going over the 2 hours, gonna return it intermediately.

Well that doesn’t make any sense. I don’t see why some developers would be so paranoid about steam sharing.

Is this a new thing? My roommate played A Hat in Time shared from my account a few days ago before buying his own copy so we could both play at the same time.

I just tried it, I was able to share the game just fine.

So can I. My brother bought it, and I can play it just fine on my own profile.

That's 100% speculation and not true. This simply is a game without family sharing. That simple.

PrimeSonic, if you have an issue with me, discuss it in private. Don’t go off topic. Thank you.

I fail to see how it's any form of piracy, when one of you is playing ANY game from a shared library the other user is locked out of the entire library until the other person is no longer playing anything. It's the same as lending your only physical copy of the game to a buddy, you obviously can't play the disc if it's at your friends house. I fail to see what's so wrong with this when Steam willingly integrates family sharing as a service, and it's allowed with every other title I can think of. I can't help but feel like it's just yet another restriction of digital distribution, the notion that you used to be able to buy a single copy, finish it, and pass it off to friends who would otherwise be potential buyers was hurting developers & publishers I guess. Given that this was primarily kickstarter funded (correct me if I'm wrong), and production costs are increasing for a number of reasons (which also results in higher quality, better-looking, better-playing games in general which are created to function on a wide variety of platforms and configurations), perhaps they need the potential purchases that badly to offset costs during development and upkeep. Hard to say, the game is extremely successful so far, I wouldn't mind seeing some numbers on development/production costs next to profit-to-date.

I share my library with my wife, and she would love to give this title a play. I suppose publishers/developers are at liberty to exempt their game from the program, which I can suspect a few reasons for but it's a disappointment for sure. That would be their right, true, but I'm just having a hard time following why this title in particular would be exempt and not others like it. I can only assume it's simply the perogative of the developers/publishers. GOG is obviously the primary/official distribution platform (or appears to be?), so maybe this was one of the "catches" having it also distributed on Steam. Strange, though, considering Steam most likely makes up a fairly large chunk of why the game is selling (and will hopefully continue to sell) quite well. Is GOG just far bigger of a deal than I'm up-to-date on? I'm not too familiar with it, all I remember is the few games on GOG I had played seemed to be completely DRM-free and were independant installs.

Don't get me wrong, I support this game and the developers wholeheartedly and I think they've done a wonderful job and this game has breathed new life into the platforming department especially on PC, but Steam family sharing should work with the entire library, no? Point being, it's not "piracy" by any definition to use Steam family sharing, in any context. It would be different if the system allowed for the library (or a game) to be in use by both users simultaneously, which obviously would never be allowed for reasons that shouldn't need to be outlined, and when family sharing launched as a service there were a lot of people surprised by the fact they couldn't both use the shared library at once, but it makes sense that that wouldn't be possible.

Again, I equate family sharing to lending your entire physical game collection to a friend all at once, even if your friend only wants to play a single game from the library. I really miss physical copies, but it has become a thing of the past. The game is wonderful though, and struck all of the right nostalgic notes for me and I do not regret the purchase at all, even with it being exempt from family sharing. I had quite a few sentimental moments with it and will definitely be replaying from time to time, and I'm certainly looking forward to the content additions that are on the way. I love what they've done here, to the extent where something such as this is not nearly enough to sour the purchase. It is a very minor annoyance to me, nothing more. I understand how it may be a major deal for others, but oh well. I'll just have to give my wife access to my system so she can enjoy it herself, easy peasy.

Do you ever get tired of stalking me?
Are you ever going to stop following me wherever I post in some vain attempt be my friend or something?
It's not gonna happen so lay off.
Might wanna check your tinfoil hat. Seems like it's pinching off a blood vessel.

It is possible for the owner to use the library/game while it's being shared, as long as the owner is in offline mode. With the exception of the few games that require Steam to be online, at least. And for games that can be run without Steam once they're installed, any number of users can play at once.

I think the irony of this is the fact that you’re reporting me when I haven’t broken any rules, while you have broken several. It’s not against the rules to post in the same thread as another. It is however against the rules to go off topic and start an argument. You’re doing both.

If you have issues with me, ignore it or talk to me in private.

Oh trust me, I know this guy. Even after blocking him, he goes through my post history and tries to get my attention in random threads I post in.
I'm not gonna read any further. Get some help, maybe stop being interested in the same games the guy is interested in, because that's how you encounter people online, by having the same interests.
I've seen people from a lot of forums on different forums as well, and it doesn't bother me, nor does it bother them. We even say Hi to each other sometimes.
And don't make up stories that sound unbelievable.

This is why GOG exists. If you own a game here, and it's on gog, just "download" the GOG version from a certain bay. Perfectly legal.
