It sounds stupid but hear me out. Friends on the internet that have never met each other will share emails just so someone can leech a ♥♥♥♥ ton of free games off of them.
So can I. My brother bought it, and I can play it just fine on my own profile.
That's 100% speculation and not true. This simply is a game without family sharing. That simple.
I share my library with my wife, and she would love to give this title a play. I suppose publishers/developers are at liberty to exempt their game from the program, which I can suspect a few reasons for but it's a disappointment for sure. That would be their right, true, but I'm just having a hard time following why this title in particular would be exempt and not others like it. I can only assume it's simply the perogative of the developers/publishers. GOG is obviously the primary/official distribution platform (or appears to be?), so maybe this was one of the "catches" having it also distributed on Steam. Strange, though, considering Steam most likely makes up a fairly large chunk of why the game is selling (and will hopefully continue to sell) quite well. Is GOG just far bigger of a deal than I'm up-to-date on? I'm not too familiar with it, all I remember is the few games on GOG I had played seemed to be completely DRM-free and were independant installs.
Don't get me wrong, I support this game and the developers wholeheartedly and I think they've done a wonderful job and this game has breathed new life into the platforming department especially on PC, but Steam family sharing should work with the entire library, no? Point being, it's not "piracy" by any definition to use Steam family sharing, in any context. It would be different if the system allowed for the library (or a game) to be in use by both users simultaneously, which obviously would never be allowed for reasons that shouldn't need to be outlined, and when family sharing launched as a service there were a lot of people surprised by the fact they couldn't both use the shared library at once, but it makes sense that that wouldn't be possible.
Again, I equate family sharing to lending your entire physical game collection to a friend all at once, even if your friend only wants to play a single game from the library. I really miss physical copies, but it has become a thing of the past. The game is wonderful though, and struck all of the right nostalgic notes for me and I do not regret the purchase at all, even with it being exempt from family sharing. I had quite a few sentimental moments with it and will definitely be replaying from time to time, and I'm certainly looking forward to the content additions that are on the way. I love what they've done here, to the extent where something such as this is not nearly enough to sour the purchase. It is a very minor annoyance to me, nothing more. I understand how it may be a major deal for others, but oh well. I'll just have to give my wife access to my system so she can enjoy it herself, easy peasy.
If you have issues with me, ignore it or talk to me in private.
I've seen people from a lot of forums on different forums as well, and it doesn't bother me, nor does it bother them. We even say Hi to each other sometimes.
And don't make up stories that sound unbelievable.
