Did the devs ever respond to the jontron controversy?

It kind of disturbs me that a racist is just freewheeling into this game. The devs maybe had no knowledge of it? Or are they really backing this guy's racist thoughts?

i remember in the beta he was a gangster penguin.. thing. it just pisses me of that this great game will get all this controversy because jontron said something that one time. :( people mess up thats sadly what makes us people. if i remember right he also said sorry afterwards but no one ever tells that story :/

If I remember correctly he payed money to the kickstarter to be a voice in the game and if thats the case removing him would be illegal

They could have refunded his contribution if that's the case, but they didn't even make a statement about it.
