Yes, this big patching thing is that annoying.
Dev has said it's because the way UE handles the game as essentially one giant .zip file and that Steam then reads that file as changed and requiring a redownload, so it's not going to stop. Every single tiny update will require a full redownload like we're subscribed to some sort of nightly build beta.
If it's fixing legitimate game-breaking bugs that crash the game for some users, I can understand, but even then I'd suggest a beta branch before pushing everyone else up against their data caps because you push out 2 updates in a single day.
You'll probably need to download a 2.3g patch everytime you want to play it, but at least it'll only be once I guess.
Hmm, I just thought about it. The update cannot be changed the way that will not touch settings file because of file structure, but what if you backup settings file with your preferences and paste it in game folder after an update?
Having to download it everytime I want to play is a nuisance!
And I know it's an Unreal Engine 3 thing. But, does it have to be this frequent? Are people really having that many issues with the game to require this many updates?
Devs already are moving to new update plan, with less frequent updates. I'm gonna find the quote now
Edit:
That's awesome, thank you for quoting that.
