Secret Backstory?

So, in the attick of Hat Kids Spaceship there is this shelf. When you equip the camera badge and go inside it while having the fox mask activated there is some text on the wall and some pictures behind it. (Images and the translation can be found in the R.King secret messages guide.) But there's also this youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBOM5vNf77zYPKK1S-6cD9Q/videos

It contains 13 videos, most of them have the same text as seen in the game. And I translated it. (full Translations below)

The videos form a story, explaining that Hat Kid is from a timeline? where someone used the Timepieces and destroyed everything. Long after that (and a lot about the moon and the sun betraying it and someone and a Sunpiece and the Timepieces...) But at the end there's Hat Kid saying she'll leave and asking someone for the Timepiece (probably Master Tempus). That someone tells her about the destruction of their timeline and tells her to be careful. And then Hat Kid left. (and made a drwing of her and (Master Tempus?) the teacher with the flaming umbrella)

There are a lot of side things in this game that make me think the devs left them open for fan theories, including the secret diary beneath the pillows in the hub and Vanessa's letters.

Even if its not canon, it's quite interesting to look into it. One of my friends also found out that the last video (11: ? Farewell) was uploaded exactly when the game was released. I have 2 questions though, my dude. Which part of the videos did you translate: The description, or the sign language in the video and how did you decrypt all this? Just curious

To be honest, this is quite fun to break down. I actually got a theory myself out of this, I hope you don't mind me sharing it here:

So, appearently hat kid has met with that shadowy figure that has an identical top hat and has been stuck in a dark void for a long time. Both were similiar beings. The shadow was from a different timeline, where it was taught by Master Tempus and Lady Puella, and there was also someone else called Cavus. I think it was taught about the Sun Piece, which was the most powerfull timepiece to exist in its timeline and time itself and maybe other things. But Tempus and Puella have shown the shadow the wrong path, which was a mistake. After the shadow interracted with that sun piece, it felt and learnt the truth. It saw the dreams of his kind. It had a lot to discuss with Cavus, alot to share, but instead, Cavus has taken the sun piece, performing a betrayal by destroying everything with it. Orders were given to hunt him down and take back the sun piece before it was too late, but he already managed to destroy the shadow's home. The shadow promised to Puella that he will go back in time, and reverse all this anarchy, no one has to die. The reason that the Shadow was seeking Hat Kid, was because Hat Kid had time pieces identical to the Sun Piece from the Shadow's reality, and since those time pieces could revert time, the Shadow was seeking it so he could go back and fix his past mistakes, and make sure that nothing happens to its home, or to its people. It also asks Hat Kid to not forget him, his kin or his story, but to remember it.

This also explains how Hat Kid knows about the power of the time pieces. The Shadow notices that Hat Kid is way stronger than it by having those time pieces, which meant more power. The Shadow assumes that Hat Kid will be much wiser with these pieces so she wouldn't destroy everything just like Cavus did. The shadow also notices that Hat Kid looks identical to its master, which is most likely the reason it assumes that she will be more wise with her time pieces.

So technically this entire backstory has NOTHING to do with hat kid's ACTUAL backstory and it is indeed not canon at all, but it gives us more information on what these time pieces are capable of. This shadow's story can also count as a warning to Hat Kid to be carefull with those time pieces. The way Cavus destroyed the shadow's home was by using the sun piece is similiar to the way Mustache Girl created her own castle of doom on a darn planet filled with lava - by destroying Hat Kid's pieces in her ship. (idk about this last one)




But yeah this is my take on these videos, maybe there are some flaws, but idc it was fun to atleast try and break it down. But sadly it has nothing to do with hat kid's actual backstory so thats still a huge darn mystery.



Edit: I think this doesn't explain exactly ALL parts of these videos (for example the songs/melodies i had no idea how to put into this theory). If this theory has any issues, just tell me and open them up for discussion i guess

No, I didn't upload the descriptions cause they're eay to translate. Also: There's more than just the videos. For example the texture of the moontablet that says "Dream on Edison and Madeleine" or the grave that ws on one island outside of mafia town. Don't remember what was written on there though. And there's the outfit on the workshop that confirms that the shadow person is a timelord. And a level on the workshop that is supposed to have something related in it. Haven't played that yet though.

But yea, a lot of people already analyzed it and figured it all out. Don't know if there's the whole thing in one place somewhere though and I don't really remember it myself.

damn, i must be really late on this. Those dreams may be some of the dreams of the shadow's people, and yes he may be a timelord. I just wanna see if my theory is close enough to the actual meaning of all this. Not that it matters much, again, not canon. But can i ask how to translate those descriptions? I don't exactly get it no matter how easy it is.

Honestly, even from stoftware could learn a thing or two about atmospheric story telling from this "easter egg." This is by far one of the coolest things I've ever seen hidden in such a gem of a game.
