Game freezes when attempting to load
I was able to play perfectly fine the past couple of days with zero bugs, saving and loading fine. Suddenly today when I tried to load my game, it freezes, with the sound stuttering and everything, on the load game page. I can't do anything to close it, not even Ctrl Alt Delete. I have to sign out of my Windows account and sign back in for my computer to run normally again. I tried loading three more times, restarted my computer, and same thing happened. Please help!

Some game engines just froze if can't load a file, but I would try other games, might be a Windows issue, maybe some corrupted file of the resources needed to this engine. Video and audio drivers and DirectX are easy to uninstall and reinstall. Also you might try to reinstall the game by Steam. But if the problem is the save file, well, you will have to ask for a new one in the community... Did you have other save files to test? Or it freezes when loading the game itself?

Yes in winsetup.exe (in install folder/via Setup in Steam library) check the following

Graphics renderer > If set to Direct3D 9, you might want to switch it to the other "OpenGL"

Audio settings (under Advanced) > Sound renderer -> change to another option ie Hardware Mixer.

This issue sounds like something that might happen when these settings are set to their DirectX options. Having DirectX 9 redistributable is recommended but shouldn't be essential with v1.7.

Also be sure to Run As Administrator and also try the game in Windowed mode to see if things improve. Once loaded in Windowed mode, you can press Alt + Enter to make it fullscreen.

PS. Save file would not load a stuttery game, save file does not load any "technical" elements, just what room you're in and what items you have etc, and if there was a problem with one of those it wouldn't stutter, it would crash with an error prompt.

I think it was a problem with that particular save file. I just ended up loading an older file and playing through again, which wasn't ideal, but worked. Thanks for the replies!
