Mac Version?
The title says it all. I just bougt the game (Indie Gala Monday Bundle B5) and I hope to be able to play it in the near future. On my Mac, that is. The game seems very promising.

While you look for an official response, I suggest it would probably work well under Wine, as I know several games created under the same engine were commercially bundled with Wine.

Yeah, I use Wine for many Steam games and will definitely give a try to this one. Thanks for the info!

Update: The game runs flawless with Wine :)

+1 for Mac.
Rather rare to see a game available for Linux, but not Mac

I don't disagree (in fact, we never have). Just not easy for us. My advice would be for someone who wants The Cat Lady on Mac to work out how to make AGS games work on Mac. It's not something we know how to do, it's not something we can easily just go and have done for us. If there was a simple way we would pursue it. It took a good many years to get AGS to move to Windows (rather than DOS) originally and over the years there has certainly been no in-editor way to export for Mac format.

At the very least, if someone tasked themselves with finding out the options, we would work with you to try and make it happen. But as a lone task for me or Harvester, porting the game to Mac is unlikely. I'm not sure why our programmer can do only Linux, but the fact is, he can do only Linux. That has hardly been a smooth ride either, and worst of all me nor Rem can help out in any way because it's beyond us. So it'll be a similar mess with a Mac version, there will be limited (if any) support.

Whether it's us, or the AGS engine, or something else I don't know - but this is exactly why we want the game after Downfall to be made with Unity cos then all this nonsense goes out the window and porting becomes (apparently? easy) so people can play it on a Mac, iOS or Xbox whatever they want...because we do recognize the importance of this, we are just restricted at the moment.

Gonna throw this out there, if you guys bundled it in a Wine wrapper, according to the above, it works just fine.
There's other games on Steam that do it (Shadowman immediately comes to mind, and I'm fairly sure Bethesda uses similar wrappers for their pots).
That way you could have a Mac-ready release via Steam for those of us who purchased it.
For a couple of us here it seems, running it via Wine isn't a big deal, but I'm pretty sure there's some people who'd rather have a heat-n-serve version. I honestly would, because I'm kinda lazy... :P

But yeah. Have you guys considered just packaging it through Wineskin and calling it a day? I imagine it'd be miles easier than direct-porting AGS (even with my relatively limited familiarity with it, I do know it was a hassle to even port to Windows).

Using Wine amounts to making a wrapper, setting up the emulated Windows environment, and redirecting the launcher. Easy-peasy. Just a thought. I'd offer to help you out more with it, but my computer is a bit of a piece at the moment until I can finish my new rig's buildout.

Edit: Come to think of it. If you guys wanted someone to at least test it and fiddle with Winetricks to get it stable, drop me a line. Relatively small filesize, I already own it, and my Macbook wouldn't mind being a guineapig. I could probably get a Wrapper together as well. Probably. It's been a minute since I've Wined, but...

Hello, thanks for that insightful info! The method you suggest seems sound to me, the question is whether the majority of Mac users are happy with that, to push it through. But I certainly think it's a good idea. I think if you can get some confident working steps to back up the idea as you suggest you may be able to, then we can see about running a test through Steam etc and making it happen. I presume first you'd need to find a standard setup for the wrapper? I don't know really, but on first read I think I am getting a basic understanding of what's required from your suggestion, thanks! Regards

It's been a few months, so I'll go ahead and ask: Is the pre-wineskin port happening?
