The best way to ensure the fastest render speed is to make sure your computer has a robust CPU (Intel Core i7 recommended) and plenty of RAM, while storing your project and source files on your C:\ drive (which I would recommend being a SSD). You would then produce to the local C:\ drive.
GPU production is actually a slower process (we tested GPU-assisted rendering prior to Camtasia 9's release), as a program will need to pass the information from the CPU to the GPU back to the CPU. These passes will slow down the rendering so keeping everything local with a nice, strong CPU on a Solid State Drive is the way to get the best performance out of production.
What sort of hardware specs do you have?
