Camtasia

Camtasia

Black screen on preview (help!)
yes I switched to "software only" setting on Hardware Acce tab however
it still shows me a stupid black screen without anything on it. I can hear the
audio but no video. I also un-installed via steam and removed documents folder
still no luck.

Please help, my subscription runs out soon.

Hello;

What type of content do you have on the timeline? Is it a Camtasia recording, or is it an imported media file? As a test, if you open a new project then go to the Library and add one of the default library assets to the timeline, do you have the same issue? Also, to confirm, after changing the Hardware Acceleration to "Software-Only" did you restart Camtasia? If not, if you set to Software Only then restart Camtasia, are you able to add content to the timeline and see it in the preview?

I tried to put in-built assets in timeline they appear ok but when I left click on preview
box, assets dissapears, I think thats a different box , not like a preview area because
there's a white line upside down on middle of that area, its not a black zone with 720p.

Also sometimes I hear the audio (which I was able to hear yesterday - same video file
I recorded via different software gameplay video mp4 AMD APP) today magically
it stopped playing audio, no video either. I don't know whats wrong with camtasia,
its a strange behavior, and yes I restarted Camtasia after I choose the "software only"
I even rebooted my Computer, it still shows some different colors on preview area
which keep changing itself when I play the video in camtasia

some of these assets also sometimes appears , sometimes not, for example:
motion graphics are not pops up but some line effects are ok

also I tried to record my gameplay with camtasia however black screen
happens when I switch to game itself, so its not recording the game but a
huge black screen. Thats why I used different software

a little help here please!
ok so I changed canvas settings , its a 720p preview window now as it should normally,
seems like everytime I launch camtasia I have to set that to 720p from project settings
by right clicking the preview area.

its still a black screen without video nor audio.

by the way, canvas color is brown, there's no transparancy

UPDATE: audio is working now without display
UPDATE2: built in assets now working after I set the canvas to 720p

tracks are also open, not muted

Hi DeltaForce;

There certainly seems to be some settings that might be off or corrupt. Can I have you open a support ticket at {LINK REMOVED} and put ATTN Robert in the Subject? I would like to look into this a bit more, and opening a ticket will allow us to transfer files/logs back and forth.

Thanks!

Thanks but seems like my issue is solved, just a minute ago I recorded AVI file
format instead of MP4, and now video works without problems, I can see my gameplay
in preview window. Seems like Camtasia really hates on Graphics card acceleration
feature because that mp4 video file was recorded with my GPU acceleration feature
which called mp4 amd app (my GPU is AMD) but avi file now works fine

I can hear audio and see the video, but you guys should allow mp4 files with
GPU acceleration because AVI format is uncompressed and takes so much
space in disk, plus, amd app feature allows more smoother recording experience.

In any case, seems like my issue is resolved, I will record my content with AVI
format. until gpu thing is fixed by developers

I will come back here if I get more problems in future.

Hello DelatForce;

Camtasia does indeed support MP4 files, in fact, the Library files are MP4 files. It is entirely possible that the AMD app is recording to a unique H264 profile, which is causing this behavior. Out of curiosity, are you able to take a test recording with Camtasia itself (just of the desktop is fine) and have it behave appropriately? It uses the industry standard encoding specs for H264 content.

yes I'm able to record desktop with camtasia recorder and put into timeline with success

Hello;

Thanks for confirming; what is the exact name of the AMD app you're using to record content? Is it safe to assume that it is the AMD equivalent of nVidia's ShadowPlay function?

Its more like a format/codec thingy provided by AMD, no its not like shadowplay
because AMD had no recording softwre/feature since years. They recently announced
and released a recording feature in their drivers (comes within their driver package)
called AMD ReLive, its their first recording feature as far as I know.

To be clear, let me tell this in this way, I'm using Action! software to record my
gameplay, (Action! its on steam as well) AMD APP is the full name of that codec
/format thing that available under "file format" list, there's three options in software
I'm using, Normal MP4 (uses directly CPU to record which causing lags/freezing
in game and I have a good processor), AVI (big file sizes, uncompressed but better
quality) and MP4 AMD APP, (this mp4 version uses GPU acceleration with CPU
as far as I know, so there's minimal lag/freezing)

If user have a NVIDIA GPU then it will have MP4 CUDA (I might be wrong, not sure)
but I have AMD GPU so its have AMD APP

In short words, its a acceleration thingy inside of the GPU drivers, not a full
different software. Shadowplay also inside of the NVIDIA GPU but its have advanced
options just like a third party software. AMD is not like that

**I apologize for my horrible English, hope you understand

Confirmed: AVI files working without problems and my hardware acceleration is also
set to Video Decoding (I just wanted to give a try) both audio and video is working
