Rocket League

Rocket League

Controller works in big picture but not in rocket league
I've been having issues getting my Xbox One wireless controller working with Rocket League for months. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, and no consistent fix.

For today's issue, I can get my controller working fine in steam big picture mode, but when I launch Rocket League the game doesn't pick up any controller inpus.

If just this one issue was fixed, everything would be fine in the world. I've tried every version of troubleshooting I can think of whenever I run into this issue: restarting steam, restarting Rocket League, connecting, reconnecting, changing USB slots, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, in big picture mode and launching Steam normally.. I'm running out of ideas - and I only run into this issue with Rocket League.

My brother has a wired Xbox One controller and runs into the same issues on his PC constantly.

And when it does decide to work, trying to replicate what I've done doesn't work. It's like throwing the same dart at the dart board while the dart board itself is moving in a circle, and when the dart feels like landing in the bullseye it just does. When it feels like it. :D

Hitting the middle Xbox/Guide button brings up the Windows 10 Gamebar, so the controller input is making it to the PC just fine, too.
I would try a couple of things..

Make sure the controller is plugged in and switched on before starting Steam.

In Big Picture mode, if you go to settings and the controller options, turn OFF Xbox Configuration Support. This disabled the extra configuration options you get for games but you can enable them on a per-game basis in "manage".

Then still in Big Picture mode, find Rocket League in the library click "Manage" on the left for the game.

In there are a couple more menus. In "controller options" Make it "Use steam configuration for non-steam controllers" is OFF and Turn experimental rumble emulation OFF
I have the same problem with Ps4 Controller. I started using PS4 configuration support in steam few days back and it worked like a charm on the first day. However , it's not working anymore :(. I have tried lot of things and finally this is what I could conclude. There is nothing wrong with the game config I'm using. Enabling the ps4 touchpad to work as mouse works fine in game. However no other button press or analog stick movement is recognised in game. The controller works perfectly in big picture mode. Sometimes I'm able to press one or two buttons when the game starts immediately after which it goes to no response mode. I have absolutely no idea how the mouse pad works but not the buttons. The game is definitely using game config and not desktop config. Moreover I'm able to use the guide button chord configuration too in game. This is so frustrating , Please help me.
I'm having the same issue with a wired 360 controller. Detected for mouse cursor in rocket league, but can't use regular (non-Big Picture) controls.
I've found that turning on your Xbox controller before launching Steam seems to work. For some
reason other games I play do not require this, Rocket League does.

If you already have it running, try opening up your task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) and make sure the Steam application and anything related to Steam processes (like the Steam client service) are closed/ended.
@McBeard Thank you that seemed to make it work (even when restarting the computer didn't oddly)
