Rocket League

HELP! Rocket League Not Recognizing Internet Connection
Hi guys, hope you can help me. I've been having a strange issue the past 2 days. Here is what is happening:

I can play Rocket League and open it without any issues, but it is like it doesn't even recognize I am connected to the internet, and my internet is working and is a direct line connection. My friends list does not show up in the Rocket League main screen, and I cannot access online play. Just says "Could not access rocket league servers, try again later." I have tried everything I know of to solve this issue, including:

1. disabling firewall
2. resetting router
3. restarting computer, steam and game several times
4. deleting the game and deleting all local files related to rocket league before reinstalling
5. Resetting all my firewall and network settings
6. unplugging all peripherals
7. reinstalling gpu drivers
8. updating all software
9 deleting all recently installed and unessential programs
10. starting stem and game As Administrator
11. Verifying integrity of game files
12. performing a ipconfig /reset in cmd
13. disabling anti-virus software
14. starting game in Big Picture Mode
15. Trying to play with VPN on
16. Disabling Steam overlay and background downloads
17. Disabling GeForce overlay and GameBar overlay

Again, I am able to play Rocket League in all modes just fine without any issues, just am boggled why I cannot connect online. I have had the game for quite a while and have never had any issues before. I know I am not banned because I did not receive any message, and it still wouldn't explain why I cannot even access my friends list in game. Any advice or solutions would be appreciated, thanks!

SOLVED!

I don't know why and I don't know how, but this method suggested to me by my friend fixed my issue:

I signed in to steam using a virtual private network on wireguard mode (I use astrill), then launched the game with my vpn still on and it connected. Then, I closed the game and restarted it with my vpn off, and now I am able to connect to online servers and see my friends list in game. Could it be that steam now blocks anyone who is in China from playing online in this game? Like I said, it worked all the time before, just started having issues about a week ago. So my theory is that when I signed in using a private network with a foreign IP, the "system" tagged my computer as a device in an allowed location to play this particular game online. Although I still do not understand why it doesn't just work using a vpn without having to resign in to steam using the vpn. But anyways, thanks again guys for all the suggestions. Hope this method also works for anyone else who is having similar issues, especially here in China (Also please note that you do need a GPN to play the game in China in the first place, which I have always used).

same here. Furthermore, my kids CAN connect and they are on exactly the same network as I am, and I even copied my game files to my daughter top speed up an update. She has absolutely no problems.

Well, I'm glad to hear, at least, that I'm not the only one having this issue. Thank you for your reply! Yeah, I tried on both of my computers, same network, same issue. It's like something is wrong with my steam account, but only for this game. Everything else works fine.
This sounds like a pretty persistent problem...
Is there any useful information in the logs (windows and game logs), especially any errors?

Sorry for questioning your troubleshooting attempts, I just want to be sure that everything is done correctly:
Ryan of Lothric eredeti hozzászólása:
1. disabling firewall
Did you make sure that you disabled/configured your OS firewall and additional software firewall (if applicable)?
Ryan of Lothric eredeti hozzászólása:
4. deleting the game and deleting all local files related to rocket league before reinstalling
Did you make sure to delete the files inside %userprofile%\Documents\my games\Rocket League too? It might be required to disable the steam cloud, just to make sure that it doesn't import a borked config before launch. (Also make sure to back up your replays before removing everything.)

Psyonix lists china as restricted region, but then it shouldn't have worked previously either, so that's probably not the reason. Also your attempt to use a VPN should have avoided that issue (as long as your VPN endpoint is located in a non-restricted region).

Other steps (taken from the official troubleshooting[support.rocketleague.com] include:
  • setting up proper port forwarding[support.rocketleague.com] in your router
  • synchronizing your OS clock (important to establish connections)
  • using a different DNS[support.rocketleague.com] (personally I prefer 1.1.1.1 or 9.9.9.9, but 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 should work too)
  • updating the Internet Explorer[support.rocketleague.com] (at least on windows 7, no idea about windows 10)
  • changing your IE privacy settings[support.rocketleague.com] (again, at least on windows 7, should also apply to windows 10)
  • updating IE security protocols[support.rocketleague.com] (again, at least on windows 7, should also apply to windows 10)
  • making sure that IE is not in offline mode
As you see I have absolutely no experience with windows 10. Sorry about that.
Some of these steps (especially the IE stuff) might sound weird, but at least in windows 7 the IE settings directly affect the OS capability to establish secured connections.

Some users also had problems with their windows profile and starting the game on a different OS account was a viable workaround for them. But if you already tested two different computers, this probably won't help either. Might still be worth a try if you are desperate enough...

If none of this works, it's probably the best idea to contact the official support, by opening a ticket at https://support.rocketleague.com/

Best of luck, hope you find a way to solve your problem!

Thank you for taking the time to reply, Brawndo! To answer your questions:

1. Yes I did disable firewall, including all software related firewall, and anti-virus program.

2.Yes, I did delete all game files, including those in inside %userprofile%\Documents\my games\Rocket League

3. Correct, being in China I am not able to play Rocket League through Steam. However, I have been using a GPN (Gamers Private Network) for some time now without any issues. Plus, a few of my friends use the same GPN application and have no issues with it. A friend I frequently play Rocket League with lives a few miles from me and has the same setup, but his is working fine. And yes, if that was the case it should have still worked with VPN, and I tried countless servers from all over the world.

4. As for the other steps you suggested, I have tried all of them to no avail.

It is strange that it did not work on either of my computers. As I said, no other game has this issue, my internet connection is very stable and fast, and this issue only started a couple of days ago. I'm hoping an update will fix it, but not sure what the problem is. It looks unlikely that it is software conflict related, or even hardware, as it did not work on my other computer which is completely different than my desktop setup. It's like something is wrong with my steam account, but only for Rocket League. Very odd.

Thank you again for your response and all of the suggestions. Hope this info gives you a little bit a clearer picture. If you have any other suggestions I'm all ears!
Thanks for taking the time and actually trying all these suggestions. As much as I hate to admit it: I have absolutely no idea what's wrong or what else could be done.

If you think it's a problem with your steam account (at this point it wouldn't surprise me anymore), you could either test the steam account of your friend on your computer, or your account on his computer. Of course this requires a lot of trust in your friend.
An easy way to do this would be using Teamviewer (or a remote support tool of your choice) and let him log into steam on your computer.

Sorry, never encountered such a persistent problem. I really hope someone else has more ideas and that you find a solution!

Thank you for the suggestions, either way. And that's a good idea with the remote support tool. I might end up giving that a try. My friend did sign in to my account on his computer and same result, no online mode. This leads me to believe it is directly related to my account, somehow.

@Lunatix I am also on Windows 10. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, though. Again, I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue. Hope more people bring this up and post so we can get to the bottom of it. Thanks again guys!
You can try that : delete the folder of cache in <My Documents>\My Games\Rocket League\TAGame\Cache. It did not work for me anyway, seems to be a problem with this game in particular.

Thanks, yeah I tried that, too. Didn't work for me, either. My friend even sent me his cache files and I copied them into the folder to replace mine, still didn't work.

That's strange, but glad to hear it is working for you now. Here is what I see in the logs after starting up the game:

svchost (10548,R,98) TILEREPOSITORYS-1-5-18: Error -1023 (0xfffffc01) occurred while opening logfile C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log.

The certificate received from the remote server has not validated correctly. The error code is 0x80092013. The TLS connection request has failed. The attached data contains the server certificate.
open ports in your modem/router, both of you.

Modems/routers can hold outgoing game connections for a few minutes, after that, connection can be made.

svchost has nothing to do with the game but with windows.

the error code 0x80092013 means your windows is broken, either do a clean install or repair it.

Thanks for the info. I will give windows repair a try, but like I said, I tried on two different computers and it still didn't work, which leads me to believe it is sth either steam account related or router related. So I might give the open ports solution a try

Hey Ryan, I'm having the same issue as you as I'm also located in China. I tried your solution but it didn't work for me. The only solution for me is to play with a VPN (ExpressVPN) but the ping is terrible. Usually I'm using UU from NetEase (without the VPN on) to boost my ping in other games however, so far, Rocket League is the only one not working. Which GPN are you using? Thanks!
