Rocket League

Showing 250fps, yet the game is choppy
Hello, I am fully aware that this has been posted in other forums with "solutions", but none of them worked. I have a 4k 60Hz Monitor, which is connected via DisplayPort.

- I tried clearing standby memory --> didn't do anything

- V-Sync is always off, FPS limit set to 250 --> didn't do anything

- Configured the NVIDIA Control Panel for rocket league and put everything to performance --> didn't notice even a slight difference

- Went into the files and changed, tweaked a few stuff, which has worked, but after around 10min of playtime everything starts acting choppy again.

- re-installed the game multiple times --> same problem still consists

It can't be my PC, as I have a I9-9900K, 2070S, 32GB DDR4 RAM, which should be a lot more than enough to play rocket league at 4k 60fps.

I've only experienced this problem with rocket league. Any other game works fine. It really annoys me that for the first 10min I can experience what the game "would be" if I didn't have this really annoying problem.

Is there anything I can do at this point which may help?
Thank you for all replies in advance! :-)

SOLVED:

set the launch option to include "-dx9"

For me as well. I play 144 hz 250 fps no vsync blah blah. I have a ryzen 5 2600x, rx 590 fatboy, 16 gb ddr4 and its fully capable of playing without lag. Every other game I play does not have this same problem. It makes the game unplayable at c3+ and it's annoying. No other forums have posted solutions that work and it's making me contemplate deleting the game for good tbh.

I feel you, this is a problem especially at higher ranks. I've sent a support ticket to psyonix, and if they send me anything useful I'll post it here.

The solution is to play in DX9 instead of DX11

Welp this leaves me being the last damn person to still have this problem. It's ruined this game for me completely and changing to DX9 didn't change a single thing. Nothing works so this game is getting uninstalled.

Before I knew it was a DX9 thing, I went into the file (steamapps\common\rocketleague\Engine\Config\BaseSystemSettings.ini) and changed a bunch of random resolutions and fps "stuff" to my native resolution and around 144fps (the UpscaleTargetFramerateDocked and Undocked were the ones, by default they were on 60 for me)

I have no clue what exactly those 2 do, and it could be that they don't help you at all, but maybe create a backup, change those values in the .ini file and try it again? Also maybe you should try setting AllowPerFrameSleep to false...?

I could be just talking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and it might not help at all, but give it a shot and who knows, maybe it will help.

"UpscaleTargetFramerateDocked"
when on battery, you have low performance, game will adjust and try to stay at 60 fps at the cost of quality

" Undocked"
same as above but then when supplied by 120/230v instead of battery

also: setting your fps limit to 250 while you can only handle 60 is stupid, your graphics card draws way more power, generates a lot more heat and noise, for what? 190 more fps that you can never ever use with that setup?

yes but... but....
" I have a 4k 60Hz Monitor"
Hz == FPS, meaning more fps then your monitors refresh rate can handle is not good for your components.

obviously a 60 Hz monitor cannot show more than 60 fps... I think it's safe to say that that's obvious. But since you don't know the context of the situation, let me enlighten you:
The bug caused the game to stutter, even OVER 60 fps. So it was basically something like this:

It showed 250 fps --> felt like 40 fps
It showed 60 fps --> felt like 15 fps

and so on. So it would feel like like you were playing at a much much lower Hz than what the game displayed. Which lead to me trying to edit all those configs, and it worked for the first 10 min believe it or not. Setting those stuff to a way higher fps somehow worked. Granted it was only for 10 min, but at least it did SOMETHING.
Now that the bug is gone I can safely set my in-game fps to 60, without having any issues at all.

to me it sound like a windows issue, did you put the performance and energy(in windows) on best performance or lower? try to alter that one see if it helps.

Thanks but I already tried those stuff. It didn't work, but as I mentioned I set -dx9 as my launch option and now everything is smooth again!

very strange, 2070 is dx12. so it's not the card. Then we get back to windows running 32b windows? then i can understand the stutter. I know you solved it but still i'm curious :)

No, it is 64bit... But funnily enough the lag kind-of came back. So switching to dx9 was temporary aswell... I have the latest drivers from Geforce Experience from Nvidia aswell... I can't figure out the problem.

What exactly is your problem? I think I may have misinterpreted the title. My problem is being at 250 fps and experiencing drops to 0, mainly near the ball (going for the ball, air dribbling, dribbling, all of that is out of my game now because of it). It doesn't happen in training, it's not my ping, it's strictly my fps and it doesn't happen in ANY other game. Is it the same for you?

My original problem was that the game was choppy, even though it showed 250fps. However my newest issue is getting micro-stutters near the ball and screen tears, even though G-Sync is working "normally". Pretty similar to your situation, but this happens in training aswell.
