Game not launching (UPDATE: Solved! Read this for advice!)
I go to press 'Play' and the 'Preparing to launch...' window pops up. It will briefly show 'Rocket League - Running' in the Steam Library as usual but will quickly then go to 'Rocket League - Syncing' as it would when the game is being closed.

I've tried everything I can think of: verified game files; restarted Steam; restarted laptop; re-installed Rocket League; re-installed graphics driver; updated Windows; optimised disk and nothing has helped.

I'm having the same problem with a few other games: Borderlands 2; Borderlands Pre-Sequel and Life is Strange. However the majority of other games in my library still launch no problem.

I can't make sense of any of this, I've no idea what changed that is causing this problem and why it's affecting these specific games. I'm still waiting on Psyonix Support after 6 hours, I'm at a loss for what to do, and I'm really worried about losing access to my RL inventory now.

I'd really appreciate any advice!

UPDATE: Big thank you to Garascio. They have posted a lot of potential solutions in this thread, one of which eventually worked for me.

Though by the sounds of it Garascio is still having trouble launching their game :( Hopefully their advice works for anyone reading this who is also having trouble launching Rocket League.

On your main user, go to Documents/my Games, Right click on the rocket league folder, select rename and change the name of the folder to "Rocket League Old", tap enter and try launching rocket league. That's what i got from support and it worked for me :)

the thing was the UPDATE. i will wait until they fix this sh**
In case anyone sees this and tried everything and it still doesn't work, I had this work for me, from psyonix support:

Go to your Rocket League install location (Default location: steam\steamapps\common\rocketleague\Binaries).
Rename the Win32 folder to Win32.Old
In Steam right click on Rocket League.
Select Properties.
Click on the Local Files tab.
Click the Verify Integrity Of Game Files button.
Wait for validation to complete.

i am leaving this comment to help anyone else having this issue as i did. I tried all the recommendations like reinstalling the game and steam, verifying the integrity of the game files, running in different compatibility modes etc and nothing worked for me. After talking to support, what finally worked was

RENAME THE "ROCKET LEAGUE" folder to anything else in My documents/my games/Rocket league then DISABLE STEAM CLOUD SYNC from game properties by right clicking on the game in steam and then launch the game.

here is a video showing how to fix it the problem is your onedrive is not syncing the game properly so all you need to do is open onedrive and delete the rocket league folder in documents
i need help, my rocket league literly wont open, ive tried everything from here and nothing is working, but I know for sure its about the firewall, because ever since I had a pop up about it when launching rocket league, it hasn't been opening, help :C

It works, but when I launch rocket league, i get a pop-upp saying 'Save failure', 'failed to save files'. I can't save any replays or play any custom training packs, which really anoys me. Please someone help!

since google commonly redirects to this page, let me just add. You can add an exception in windows defender, right at the bottom add exceptions. Anyway I discovered after trying all the solutions, nothing worked. So I after some trial and error - it doesnt need and exception.

JUST TURN OFF PROTECTED FOLDERS! seriously. toggling this switch alone breaks the game for me. Perhaps it cannot access the settings in the documents folder? which you cannot remove from the list... what a stupid idea.
Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > manage randsomware > controlled folder acces > OFF!

big tip for anyone wondering the web.
You sir, are my hero. This fixed it for me. <3
remove "-dx9" startup option
disable DYNAMIC SHADOWS from the graphics options.

I recommend setting all your graphics to performance and work your graphics up from there.
