Can't get my controller to be recognized as player 1. [Solved]

This game recognizes my controller only as player 2. I have only one controller plugged in. Player 1 is keyboard and I can't change that to controller.

I'm using PS3 controller and MotionJoy gamepad tool to emulate it as Xbox 360 controller. Works fine with other games.

Any ideas other than get a xbox 360 gamepad?

EDIT: I think the DS3 Tool recognized my controller twice as USB and bluetooth. I just disconnected the bluetooth one and it works now.

Temporarily unplug the keyboard prior to launching the game?
Set the controller on DS3 Tool to player 1 (dont remember if that is possible, I believe it was just the LED lights.)

I am having the same problem and I can't fix it. If you unplug the keyboard and mouse prior to launching the game it just crashes. From what I've tried right now there is no way to fix this. My controller worked fine until I played splitscreen with friends. My main controller I use is a logitech. My friends used ps3 controllers and it automatically switched one of them to player 1. I can only use my main logitech controller as player 2 now and the only way I can play as player 1 with the controller is by using the exact same ps3 controller that was player 1 when playing splitscreen. I need to figure out how to turn the logitech to player 1. And suggestions? I'll keep you updated if I find a fix.

I have found a simple fix. I have tried everything and I finally fixed it. All I did was restart my computer and everything started working. :D hope this helps. Glhf

ALERNATIVE SOLUTION: I had this problem as well, and nothing helped. Using x360c i got the controller to work, but it didnt do the trick because my controller was still player 2. What you can do is edit the x360ce.ini with a text editor (notepad / Notepad++). Under [Mappings] the controllers are given their positions (Keyboard player 1 / Controller Player 2 / .. ). Try to identify your controller by its "IG_.." and "ProductName=..". Now you can swap the [Mappings] so that your controller is at position 1.
This worked for me just fine.

I found the fix! first install x360ce 32 bit you can easily find it using google or any search platform. after installing extract it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rocketleague\Binaries\Win32. Open the program and press your controller's keys and check that everything is working, make sure your controller is on Controller 1 top left!. Below the "Controller 1" tab there are sub tabs go to " Controller (Controller name)" and you will see on your right a "Map To" tab switch that to 1. Make sure to save and enjoy! P.S you can add another controller and map it to 2 the exact same way and have a splitscreen sesh! :)

I d not know if it is the same problem, but for me in linux I had to disable steam controller support in big picture menu, it creates another joystick interface (/dev/input/js1) and causes this problem

I had a similar issue and I think I finally have a reliable fix. The key issue is the Windows directx engine gives controllerIDs to all pads plugged in and there isn't an easy way to manage them. RL only uses the pad with ControllerID = 0 for player 1.
here are my steps for fixing this. (sometimes step 5 and 6 is all you need, but when things get messed up I have to do this whole process)
1. Plug in all gamepads you have used on this PC
2. uninstall each one from device manager. unplug the controller after you uninstall it.
3. Uninstall the controller you want to use last and unplug it.
4. reboot.
5. plug in the controller you want to use (let windows install it or install driver if applicable)
6. in control panel, go to the "Set up USB game controllers" section
7. click "Advanced" select your controller, then "OK"
8. reboot. (for good measure)
9. Try RL again! hopefully it works now.
In the future any time you plug in another gamepad, make sure your original player 1 pad is plugged in and on.

i'd hope developers all use porperly named ini files (assuming they are similar across platforms)

If using the Scp Drivers with xbox 360 controller drivers, try going in Big Picture Mode, click the gear at the top, go to controller settings and make sure "Playstation configuration Support" and "Xbox Configuration Support" are checked. To disable Big Picture Overlay, go to Steam Settings and uncheck "Use the Big Picture Overlay when using a Steam input enabled controller from the desktop".
