Cabined accounts / Chat ban

What causes an account to be cabined? I make this assumption because I haven't been able to text in chat for quite awhile lately. I had set up parental controls on my epic games account to get access to certain features and I am unsure if that triggered something.
I made a fresh epic account and linked it there, but the problem remains.
I'm not sure if this is the result of being cabin-ated or apart of a chat ban. I won't lie I don't have a clean history in game chat but nothing extreme to warrant a chat ban imho.

Please check the in game settings and make sure the chat is open to everyone.

Also check your cabined account settings on the Epic Games website at the following section: account --> parental controls

If nothing there - or platform related feature is limiting that function then try contacting player support at the following link to see if you have an active ban (using the blue contact us button at the bottom of the page):

I think the chat banning needs to lighten up honestly. I know the whole shpiel about wanting a less toxic environment, etc., but ultimately having an account ban over banter is silly. It's a competitive game. Of course there's going to be people going back and forth at each other in the chat. And the whole thing about (and I saw someone else comment this once) "let people have their temper tantrum and just report them" is just lame IMO. I don't honestly think it's toxic to have some competitive banter. Like, obviously, if you're telling people to kill themselves or doxxing, or something outrageous crossing the line like that, yeah that's worth a proper report and ban/warning, but to get chat banned over anything else is super elementary school-type behavior from Epic or Psyonix, whoever moderates the reports.

Stop treating the chat reports like it's a kindergarten playground. ffs.
