Voice chat acting weird

I've disabled chat and push to talk, and I made sure there is NO button assigned to the voice button, but there are so many times I see my name on the left side of the screen with a speaker icon next to it. Does this mean somehow my voice chat is being activated every time I see that icon? I keep double checking the settings and it's all still turned off.
Why do I keep seeing this icon with my name? Sometimes it's there when I'm not pressing anything at all.

Not sure as I have not messed with the seeting myself in RL....this is speculation......

If you turn 'push-to-talk' OFF then basicaly you have turned 'talk-to-talk' on...as in the way most consoles handle VioP...the mic detects when someone is speaking and activated the viop auto.

Try turning push-to-tak back on...but assign a key you wont press during gameplay in million years! See if it still happens.

IF it does then you need to look OUTSIDE the game....some other software could be forcing your mic to enable.

OH. Okay. Talk-to-talk. I suppose I hadn't thought of that. I'm not really sitting here talking to myself, though, so the mic must be picking up the game sounds or something; that would explain why I don't even need to push the button and sometimes it's there.
I just keep the button unassigned completely.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, this started to happen to me since the rocket labs update.

I'm using an xbox controller with no button assigned to PTT, voice chat disabled in options, microphone unplugged from the soundcard and still the game keeps activating the PTT randomly even if i'm idle.
Asides of being annoying to see it turning on and off constantly (happens easily more than 20/30 times per minute) other players have also understandably complained about this.

The only change I had either on software or hardware on the computer since the rocket labs update was my mouse which has no extra drivers asides of the HID windows compliant driver.
Still I tested uninstalling that driver, restarting the computer without the new mouse, started the game and this still happens.
Also verified the integrity of the game cache which stated that all files were validated successfuly and did not fetch any files afterwards.

Same here. Voice chat is disabled, yet I've still seen the icon indicating my mic is being picked up in-game, while using TS to chat with friends. This first happened after the rocket labs update for me as well.

This has been happening to me and one of my friends for months. It is incredibly annoying.

Is this ever going to get fixed? This bug has pretty much been here since launch. Audio icon randomly starts popping up no matter what voice settings I have turned on/off. I've tried every combination of enabled/disabled and push-to-talk on/off, yet it always happens eventually when playing.

Same, but happened when there was or was no keybinding. I noticed it picked up if i tapped my controller (but not audibly enough for the mic to pick it up)

And it's happening to me now. Hell, I've tried removing the keybind, tried multiple buttons I never press and even used the default one but nope. Everytime I finish one match online it automaticly triggers the next round and all the following, the only way to turn it off is closing the game and opening it up again, but even still after one round it turns itself on again. Dunno how to solve this anymore, if someone has a solution to this I'd love to know because it's really annoying :/

It's still happening to me too. And it's really annoying because I'm using Steam voice chat but then RL will steal control of the mic and my friends can't hear me.


I don't know if it matters, but I'm using a USB mic. I've tried everything mentioned above...

And those that do really should'nt be. Their either playing music and signing or yelling etc ;)

well i don't want to use the in-game chat. it is triggered by itself although i don't have a key bind for it and while it is also disabled in the options. like the commenters above are mentioning.

i have the same problem. when my mic is enabled i can see my name with a mic icon on the screen and idk how to turn it off. i dont want to speak to random people. i want to speak to my friends.

as the first responder said, try turning push to talk ON, but assign that key to something you will never ever press in a million years. Then you never have to worry about it.
However, this was 2 years ago, so I can't go test and see if that's still the right solution since so many changes have been made since then and also I haven't installed rocket league on my new pc yet. Hope it helps!
