Peer to Peer...
Before you speak ...
THINK!
T- is it true?
h- is it helpful?
i- is it inspiring?
n-is it necessary?
k- is it kind?
;)
Doesn't work well if it's a badly programmed game, or if you have a bad internet connection, but it can work fine
For example, I can host a Wreckfest server with 16 players on my home computer, without any lag, and this game is way more complex than Rocket League
Custom servers + mods would be amazing for this game, but it will most likely never happen, sadly, they probably want to control everything
It's simply not reliable enough.
Dedicated servers >>>>>>> Peer to Peer.
(Even accounting for server down time and server issues)
Yeah... P2P can work. But I'll take a few hours down time of lag-free dedicated servers than risking lag infected P2P.
Unless you don't know how port-forwarding works/you don't have working UPNP or have a really bad connection, peer-to-peer is just fine.
If a frame-perfect game depending extremely on latency like Street Fighter 4 works just fine with peer-to-peer then this game surely can too.
Remember - this game connects a maximum of 8 players with each other. 8 ! This isn't Battlefield we are talking about.
I don't mind having lag if i connect to someone with a bad connection or someone very far away. Do you prefer connecting to a server where you have a ping of 30 playing against someone with a ping of 200 ? How is that more fair ?
if you find that bothersome you could still filter to play against people only from your continent. Or simply disconnect in the lobby if you see someone has a bad connection.
Just like in any other peer-to-peer based game.
Atleast we could have played perfectly fine since launch. But apparently that is undesirable and dedicated servers are much more preferable even if it means you need a virtual server for literally every session, private or public.
Which - as you can see - leads to a shortage of servers and server instability.
