Why can't you chat with ps4 players?

When a pc player types something can ps4 players see it or can they only see the pre-programmed messages like "Nice Shot!" I heard that you can't use voice chat with them either; Is this a technical thing or a design thing?

PS4 players can only see the programmed messages. They can't see what you type or hear what you say. This is because players are on different platforms making sending messages to people in game harder.

As far as I can tell, Playstation users see PSY Net for PC users, and viceversa.

I don't think it's as much a technical limitation as a corporate one. My understanding is that Sony didn't want real cross-platform chat so Psyonix couldn't do it and had to just leave it at quickchat.

its gonna be real hard to coordinate strategy and tactics or game plan when you cant directly discuss them with other players.. in this case PS4 players. and i think this is the reason why you are able to exclude PS4 players for ranked matches.

Also, ps4 users don't have a keyboard on hand so wouldn't really be able to reply anyways. Can you imagine having to type an on screen message via PSN during a replay or match? lol

That's OK, no reply needed. I just wanna yell "WHY DIDN'T YOU GO FOR THE BALL ON KICKOFF YOU ****ING IDIOT!?" To ps4 players as well. It's more of a rhetorical question :)

It was apart of an agreement from Sony. It's also how the Disable Crossplay option came to be as well.
