It exists because redditors wanted to feel special. It's only good if you're pinned against a better player and want to take both of you out of the game for a while.
As the best player in the lobby 80% of the time I'm not staying in a rule 1 even tho I'd like to.
it is one of the so called: "unwritten rules"
everyone can play as they fit, naturally respecting all the "true" rules of the game and above all of the text chat.
feel free to play your games as you want.
if you experience abusive behavior towards you, simply report those directly involved or disable the game chat

its just a way to maintain fun in the aspect of competitive play. be a little funky and maintain a sense of community.

basically just like a contest of staring in the eyes of your dogs as long as possible Xd
I don't see anyway why it would get people angry. by principle , when someones hops off r1, i just say holy cow and then continue playing :-P

Rule #1 started as something different among veterans of the original game, SARPBC, except to them it means a commitment to try and keep the ball from touching the ground for as long as possible after 0:00, even at the risk of your opponent scoring.

"If you lock nose-to-nose, you have to stay there until collision or a goal interrupts you" is therefore Rule #2 really, but it's become Rule #1 since that argument was lost long ago.

If it annoys you, ram the cars to disrupt them.

Is that what you remember from those times or you have some source? Would be nice to see some history.
It makes more sense and you have little bit more control at that time.

However there was once vote and Rocket League Twitter Community decided, haha :

Slightly different view than what i have.

I am so toxic that if i ever see my team mate do that bs i will instantly press ff and stop playing because clearly it implies that my mate has no interest in playing the game so why should i bother either.
This is the only time i get toxic towards my mate but i just can't stand it.
(Yes i know that this is absolutely ridiculous and i should be ashamed of myself)
