Why does the game download 8GB every few days?
Like right now, it's downloading 8.6GB. This happens every 2-3 days which is ridiculous.

Other games have delta updates which are small, especially when they are mature.

I have also disabled "Always keep this game updated", instead "Update this game when I launch". I don't see any more frequent updates now.

It doesn't for me.

My guess is that you're on Linux/Steam Deck (which could be important info to write) so you need to run game only under Proton similar as mentioned in topic here https://steamcommunity.com/app/252950/discussions/0/4632609554996167249/#c6400272499512225451 :

My guess is its trying to run the discontinued Linux version by default

Sorry, I added system info now to OP.

I do use Linux (though have not playing on Steam Deck recently).

I know Rocket League is no longer natively compiled for Linux, and I use Proton Experimental. This should not and never does cause games to get fully re-downloaded, because Steam maintains the native Windows version of the binary.

Today there was an update again by the way but this was 3.6GB.

So I asked Volodesi (other RL Steam forums volunteer moderator) who understands more about Linux, Proton, Steam Deck, etc. stuff and he wrote :

"Probably shader cache updates. The download screen literally tells you what the download is for on Linux.
Also a lot of people don't understand how Steam downloads work. You can download a 200 mb file and it shows as affecting 7 gbs of files."

Linux is actually a lot better, you are missing out.

They have been saying that for the past 20+ years, almost there!

It's been there for at least the last 2 years, least since I switched.

Don't feed the troll :)

I have a similar issue. Everyday it loads a pre-shader cache update of 9gb. Don't know why RL does this. Last month i had this "issue" with Warframe but something changed and now its for Rocket League instead of Warframe.
