Matchmaking is completely BROKEN.
Rocket League's Matchmaking is completely broken. I'm a "Veteren" in rocket league with 74 hours of play. I'm not a great rocket league player but in a game of 6 players, I'm MVP about 35% of the time but i'm not a ball hog. I rarely miss the ball when I'm going for it, and I know when to backoff the ball and let someone else hit it first. I play pretty defensively but take advantage of opportunities when they arise.

I'm still unranked. Yep. I can't even make it to bronze I.

Every game I'm fighting against opponents that are pretty strong and competent. Players hitting beautiful airballs are pretty common and setups are getting followed-up regularlly.

But since i'm not even ranked, why am I matched against such great opponents? Something seems really off. After 74 hours and sitting at the lowest rank possible, you would think that I would get some positive results.

When I first started out, I was stuck unranked for a few weeks, so I decided to read tutorials, guides, videos on how a proper 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 match works. I added some RL friends along the way when I think we have good team chemistry. As I improved on my game and increase my MM points (which is going to be gone season 2 anyways), I noticed the RL friends played worse than when I had less points. This is what people implied by the "you're not good enough" claim which is what devs are fixing in the February update. So, if you think you're better performance wise than the rank points you got now, then you better prove it within the first 10 games of Season 2.

At the same time, you have to get rid of your expectations how the game is played because there is almost no wrong way to play the game. No two teams are alike - there are some teams that are very tight defensively, and I have to adapt and position differently compared to teams that are boost dependent or aerial heavy.

The very first face-off can be most unpredictable- I notice it's very easy to score a goal within the first 15 seconds, so preparation is key to avoid an easy loss at the start, too. In other words, if your team can manage a good defense for the first two minutes without being scored on, you have one half of the equation taken care of.

It's broken, we know it's broken, devs know it's broken. Everyone knows that it is broken. Your the 10,000th person not post this.

They already have a fox for it with season 2 which is coming In feb sp just hang in there

dude what kind of Fox is it? Is it like a Red Fox? Or more of an african style Fennec Fox?

lol you suck

Yep, the matchmaking is horrible.

Of the last 20 ranked matches or so I lost about 17.

Theoretically, the matchmaker should find teams of equal power. So you'd have a roughly 50% chance to win. If you lose or win matches, you should face accordingly stronger or weaker teams. But this here seems to be 90% randomness.

If you lose 17/20 games you suck. Sorry mate but you really, really suck. Losing 17 games would mean a loss around ~150 points for me. Thats one rank. If you drop one rank just like that you suck. Thats not the ranked system its you being bad as hell.

You losing 17 of 20 games is not because the matchmaker is terrible. Its because you are a very low skill player and mostly more skilled players play ranked. A player could have played 100 hours before he even plays ranked for the first time so in your very first game you could be up against veterans or experts who have the same rank you do when you don't even know how to hit the ball.

Don`t forget the fact, that you will meet tons of "pro" players in unranked (Elo <= 100) matches.
- The ones switching from ps4 to pc
- The smurfs (tons, since family sharing isn`t fixed)
- The ones playing rpbc before
- The ones playing the beta and start over now
- The average 12yo kid, learning the game like 200 times faster then you....

So get pre-mates keep going ;)

There are 2 possibilities here:

1. You just aren't good enough. (which I doubt for unranked as veteran)
2. The ladder ranking doesn't say anything about your individual rank/rating. There is individual ranking for every player. I am close to gold 2v2 veteran, but never played any duel ranked. Even when I play ranked duels I get matched with Veterans/Experts/Masters.

https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/3uv3xu/how_the_ranking_system_and_matchmaking_works_the/

If say you lose 5 points per game, but gain 11. That means your individual rank is higher than the current tier for the gamemode. If you lose and gain about 7-8 it generally means you'replaced somewhat correctly.

My advice is stay on defence and counter. If they can't score they can't win

Unless a super counter contrast cross comes and goes directly into the door from the heaven without bouncing.

The problem with matchmaking is that a new player to RL ranked matches with no rank may have played RL for months before playing online, still the system takes him and put him with 2 veterans because he's "new" and then you have 3 players who have been playing for months and you end up with 2 real noobs, it sucks.
I don't think it's gonna change much because this situation can't be changed.

Step 1 should be disabeling Family sharing for RL.
