TL;DR, but the main reason why people ragequit is because kids of this generation were raised under the 'instant' culture, which states that 'i dont have to work for it to get it. I want to get it now, or else!!'
Basically what i'm saying is that everything they want, they can get it right now, rather than earning it properly with time investment/money/respect/etc.
This is true with many aspects of real life teenagers of nowadays, and video gamers that are rage quitting is just one of the examples. So if a player rage quits, regardless of the emotion storm happening in his head, he thinks that 'someone took it from me, its not fair!' rather than 'i didnt work hard enough to earn it'.
I hope i explained it well.
While I definitely agree with you that more and more kids these days seem like entitled little punks, they certainly did not invent ragequitting.
I started playing video games with my dad and his freinds on his Atari and can remember the days when people would congregate at arcades. People have been quitting and throwing controllers in rage for decades. This is not new.
Actually you loose the same and the first guy will get a 15 min ban, after the first have left the remaining players on the team may leave only with the point loss as a penalty
I play to have fun. No fun, no play
If my team sucks then I just go into support mode.
You learn nothing by leaving.

I have more character than to engage and not finish.
Even worse are the early rage quitters, you can quickly go down two ,nil and with proper time mount a comeback. My most exciting games have been comebacks that you win.
This is one of my most exciting matches I've been a part of which was a comeback. Sadly you can't see the score due to the water mark but you can see the score below in the timeline. We scored 1 goal, then the opponents dropped 3 on us. With about a minute left we scored again and with 10 secs left I tied it with a parkour aerial and my team mate won in in overtime.

Why deny yourself the chance to play in exciting matches like this if you just assume you will lose? I am willing to bet that the high level players got to that skill level by playing and learning from every match.
