This is ranked! You do not have ranked points in normal mode. (At least I do not think you do, I haven't played Normal in a few months.)
So if a teammate leaves mid-match and I select "leave match", do I lose rank points?
What I meant is that you should party with some of your friends in a party and play in the ranked lobby for prearranged teams. If you can't convince your own friends to stick with you until the game ends then you aren't going to convince anyone.
EDIT: I'd like to mention that I agree with you on the party up thing. A lot of my RL friends play Rocket League, and they don't ever leave the match mid-match unless it's because of a DC.
Whether or not I'm playing with friends or randoms is irrelevent, because the problem still stands. Although you have a better chance with pre-made groups / friends who will probaly stick out for the matches, the problem doesn't suddenly go away - since your pre-made groups / friends can also pop offline, for any reason (disconnect, power outtage, etc.).
My point is, if your teammate leaves for whatever reason, you're essentially stuck in the match. You're at a disadvantage, and more times than not, you'll lose that match - therefore, because of the disadvantage, you're almost guaranteed to lose rank points.
Quitting = Lose Rank Points
Fight it Out and Lose = Lose Rank Points
If your teammate leaves, you shouldn't have to lose rank points for the outcome - regardless of what the outcome is. If you win, you (and only you) either should get your win rank points credited as normal or be given the equivalent amount of rank points as you would if you won against opponents of a higher division.
The teammate who left should still lose rank points, regardless of the outcome (this is how the 15 minute ban works), and shouldn't win any rank points even if the teammate who stayed won. (I believe this is how it works - and I'm not advocating to change any of it).
I've won once in a while in 1v2 matches, but it's not frequent, and usually it's because the other teams are making mistakes.
This isn't about people who leave matches, but people whose teammates leave the match.
I 100% agree - if you leave the match, you should lose rank points. I'm not saying anything against this.
What I am saying is if your teammate leaves the match, you should not be penalized.
Someone can prevent themself from ever losing ranked points by simply playing with friends and having their friends quit matches they are going to lose. This is why in practially every game that has ranked quit/disconnects count as regular matches regardless of who quits/disconnects.
