I just like the feel of using a singular stick for all the work.
I personally use xbox elite controller which have a curve settings on how the analog stick respond, where I set it to linear/instant as it says in the app, so I can do half flip (180 degrees) just fine with my LB air roll setup.
The way i perform a half flip on my setup is that after I cancel the forward/backward flip I move my thumb stick diagonally instead of straight 90 degrees relatively, so it still retains the cancel input. Although, that makes the car half flipping kinda diagonally and i have to take that into consideration when landing and pointing where I want to go.
Then again, lately I've been doing a J turn more in place of a half flip.
