Is Gold the new Bronze?

I'm not proud to be Gold in 3v3, but I believe I should at least be getting paired with people who can hit the ball and maybe do a single aerial trick.
I seem to be getting matched with Bronze players, which is where I believe would be the people who can't hit the ball or act like they know what's going on.
Did I miss something, and now Gold is actually the worst rank you can be in?
This is my experience. I'm not claiming to be good, but I have basic functionalities that would validate any "Gold" rank I might have.

Yes, Gold seems like they place when you might expect a lot of players who barely can play the game yet they gained ranks by simple being lucky matched with people who carried them by accident.

Overall GOLD I-III hold ~28% of playerbase, BRONZE I-III 0,8%
BRONZE is almost non-existant,
