Just make a backup before doing something, after that, Steam gonna load the Cloud backup, and everything must work perfectly.
Sadly that doesn't work :L
Some time last year it had changed my date and put the year ahead by one, so when I saved my car on that day, it updated the save file with a "last modified" date of 28/06/2018.
Therefore, every time I tried to change my car after that, it saw that the current file was more from a later date and didn't overwrite...
This means that every item I had received until I fixed this came up as a "new item" upon launching Rocket League.

I only wrote this because I had multiple saves in my save folder, so if anyone has had this issue, find the save file that was last modified some time in the future and delete it (making sure to save a backup somewhere), then launch Rocket League and change your car. If the old file re-appears, make sure to clear your recycling bin, like I had to. Otherwise, I hope this works for y'all.
