Well this stinks more than alot, predicting the ball atleast should be no problem technically even in a online game, the devs should just ban this software...
https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/7p2nib/bakkesmod_has_a_lot_of_features_that_are/
This software predicts where the ball is going to go and shows you an overlay, if thats not hacks i dont know what else would be... Even when it apparently only does it in singleplayer this is something that shurely can be done in a online game too...
That being said as long as the only thing it does is show mmr I am perfectly happy with having the mod, though the devs could just include the mmr internally in the game then i personally would have never downloaded bakkesmod.
It shows ball and all that in single player and training because in training and single player modes they are offline and ran 100% on the local client. When you play online its all server side, the mod has no way of being able to access or connect to the server.
The only reason you can see mmr in the first place is because its in the code and is just hidden. Psyonix could hit a toggle and make mmr public at any point if they wanted too. Where as predictions and ball paths are all calculated and are all server side not client side so there is no cheat or possibility of this happening
I dont wana strike a discussion but even when the ball path is calculated on the server there is nothing stopping clients from predicting it based on the received input from the server. You should just ban any 3rd party software used in online matches if you ask me... If you allow this "mod" to run in online matches what tells you that it doesnt also do the ball tracing stuff additionally to the "legit" mmr stuff?
Because BakkesMod simply does not allow predictions in online games. If you don't believe all users on this forum, just install it yourself.
You could argue that an anti-cheat feature in general would be useful, but banning a mod that does not allow any user to gain an unfair advantage in online games is just stupid.
While you could technically gain an advantage with such mods, I doubt that it will be much useful for everyone above (very) low bronze. You quickly get a more or less precise feeling for the path of the ball and proper positioning, teamplay and mechanical skills will quickly be much more important.
Including any anti-cheat features for such a small thing would propably a huge waste of time and ressources, as these things always escalate into cat and mouse games. Devs will improve the cheat detection, cheaters will modify their code, rinse and repeat...
The whole issue is only theoretical, nobody actually wants or uses such mods. If you look at typical places where hacks are traded, you will notice that nobody cares about ball predictions and everyone is looking for boosting services.
Cheaters don't want a tool that might help them to get a bit better, they want someone else to boost them, so they look like much better players, without doing anything.
