Why does no one talk in this game anymore?

I've noticed this in most games I've logged into, no one talks, not even a casual chat. The only texts people write are toxic things telling you to shut up, ♥♥♥, uninstall, racist crap etc...

I'm thinking it's a generational thing that a lot of younger gamers have accepted toxicity as a natural part of games but my God have they made games not fun to play.

I always feel like I'm playing a single player game with toxic bots. To the point now it's just creepy.

You've probably just answered your own question there. "Only texts people write are toxic things" No wonder people don't feel enticed to talk. Some of the most toxic encounters I've had in gaming has been in this rocket propelled football game. The generational aspect does have some merit but I'd say toxicity has always been part of online gaming where there's some level of competition.

When do you have time to have a chat? Honestly, i don't even say GG because most don't reply anything. GL HF also doesn't get a reply so screw it.

youve explained why i turned chat off long ago and dont miss it. im sure it leads to less teamwork as a community but psyonix only cares about cosmetics so nothing will ever change.

I feel you. I used to be able to chat up people in the intermission and make friends or partys through it. Also used to be able to say "Hey nice shot" and get a thank you in return.

At this point, the chat is dead, and I can understand why. Toxic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ruined that stuff. Still, be nice to just have a sportsman-like game where people praise each other for nice goals, and say good game at the end of the match, regardless who wins.

And to everyone in the thread saying, "just turn it off lol, everyone is toxic, so who cares?"

Do you realise how much that destroys a game that is based around honing individual skills to work as a team? If people cannot communicate / make friends in RL, then RL is dead. It no longer is a team game, and becomes just a grind to get skins. It loses the aspects that made it so good in the first place.

You don't need to communicate to have a basic rotating scheme and to pass the ball to the middle in front of opponent goal. You actually don't need communication to understand where your teammates are and hence you can play without quick chats or any other complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that is just spammed by all the 10 year olds playing this game.
The RL-community is already rotten in it's core, steam RL-community is definitely cracked - people are either steam rollers or worse than the bots.

I've had all the chats turned off for years now, now I don't have to experience all the toxic spam from them. Now I only have to experience people running around like headless chickens to satisfy their own egos.

I don't know which ideal world you think you live, but in reality it will never be like that.
When chat was on, people would just blame you for your mistakes (which Is a toxic behavior even if they are right to be mad or not), and of course, their mistakes as well, because... toxic people are just like that.

Chat off, you can at least concentrate in the game without reading pointless offensive words to diminish your moral even more when the match is going bad.
