Gas + Brake = Gas... can I change this?
I recently switched to controller after nearly 3000 hours playing with a mouse and keyboard. I will not go into why I decided to do this, but obviously it took some getting used to. I'm pretty much converted at this point, however one thing I can't seem to overcome is continuing to hold the gas while I am braking. When using a keyboard, my middle finger controlled both "W" and "S", which I used for gas and brake respectively, so it was impossible to accidentally hold them both at the same time. Using a controller, I have the right and left triggers set to gas and brake respectively, and I find myself constantly holding gas while I am trying to brake. When both gas and brake are held at the same time, gas seems to be the "dominant" function, and brake is ignored. For example, I will tap the brake to slightly slow down prior to going up for an aerial, only to fly past the ball because I was holding gas too, rendering the brake button null. This could be solved for me if I could somehow make the brake the "dominant" function whenever both buttons are being pushed. Is there a way to do this? Or, does anyone have advice for overcoming this problem? Thanks in advance.

There will be no way to solve this issue other than to practice. The gas dominance will be coded in to the game as taking priority.

Only thing I can suggest is to practice not holding gas all the time. It will take time but I assume moving to a controller was time consuming also (I switched from KB+M after 200 hours).

The majority of the time I don’t have an issue with holding down the gas. I can sometimes go several games in a row without this happening. However, it seems to happen at the worst possible times, when I am doing something difficult or something requires a quick reaction. I find myself squeezing the gas trigger involuntarily and I don’t even realize it until the play is ruined. It’s just weird having to concentrate on not doing it when for 3000 hours it wasn’t even possible. I guess I’ll just have to get used to it. Thanks for the help.

Hmm... interesting. How do I make this happen?!

my car stops and stays still if I press both (X1 controller)
Mine makes me stop too :0

So I did a little experimenting in free play. If I hold down gas and brake at the same time while at a standstill I don't move. However if hold gas, gain some speed along the ground and then hold brake while still holding gas I come to a slow, gradual stop. If I hold gas, gain some speed along the ground, and then hold brake but let go of gas, I come to an immediate stop. I assume this is the same for everyone, and it does explain why my timing is thrown compared to when I used the keyboard. I'm just going to have to be more aware of when I am pressing gas and get better at controlling it. Thanks for everyone's input.
My DS4 was brake dominant, and i just switched to DS5 and its gas dominant, this is a large issue right now lol
I thought trigger input was analogue on controller?
I tend to snatch the triggers when I get excited also.
