Custom Cars?
Me and my buddy were having a chat over how cool it would be to have a BMW M4 in Rocket League, and a creative idea made its way into my head.

What if Rocket League had its own car-designing "studio?" (of sorts)

I'm sure im not the first bloke to think of this, but it would still be awesome if individual players had the ability to make their own vehicles. It would make each player feel discrete from every other player, and allow for a larger variety of car designs.

This idea of having custom car designing can be done in two different ways.

1) Some seperate, Open-sourced program that allows for designers to create a car that can
be shared with the community. (particularly through a website of some sorts)

Pros:

> A heavy update to the Garage is not necessary, just a few tweaks to allow the
moving of files to your Garage.
> Cars made by users can be shared through said seperate website.
> Users would not have to feel the need to create a car of their own to get a custom car.

Cons:

> People can still steal other's car designs, and call it their own. This isn't particularly
surprising, considering that this version of my idea does allow for sharing cars.
> You would need seperate servers to run the website for designing said cars, unless
you could find someone else to provide the servers to you for free. (highly unlikely)

2) A new itteration of the Garage, which allows for a much higher level of car customization.
(Body-panels, air intakes, etc. etc.)

Pros:

> Allows for each individual player to create a car to their exact specification.
> No two cars will be alike, making each player's car exclusive only to themself.

Cons:

> A major update to the Garage would be necessary
> It would be much more complicated for a beginning user to create their car.

Of course, this idea is very unfinished. That's why im counting on you guys in the forums to improve and add upon it!

I really did want to have a feature like this. Rocket League should have a workshop on Steam so that the community contributors can create custom 3D modeled cars, antennas, toppers or custom textures and stickers to the existing cars.
It would be a lot of fun if the game allows such modding. But still Psyonix wouldn't do this 'cos it may hurt the reason to have DLCs ! : :P:

I would love to have custom decals, would really be sweet for the tournement scene.

The first problem that jumps to mind is that everyone will end up using the same car. At the moment it's a bit of preference, but all cars have different hitboxes. The ability to make your own car would most likely result in some pro level team all using the same car specifically designed to fill the perfect role via combination of weight and shape. Easy to see corners with predictable trajectories, etc. After that happens, everyone will start using that same vehicle.

Right now the general pop all seem to use one of three, maybe four cars for that very reason, and two of them even have similar hitboxes.

Secondly there would be legal issues with copyrighted stuff, blah blah lawyers.

As for artwork, such as decals, that would be cool for teams and such.

Think about the license problem. "Real" existing cars are licensed and thats expensive for Psyonix.

To achieve this Valve need to open a steam workshop for RL
