I don't see any problem with it. It's not like your age is such a privacy thing, is it?
It should be a common knowledge that you shall be, at least, thirteen years old of age to have a Steam account, unless you're bein' under supervision of your parents. You can't even create a Steam account if you're not meeting this requirement.
They recently introduced limited acocunts (or whatever they call them) to restrict some features like payments and suhc for minors. I think that's the gist of it. So you say (don't even have to prove it) that you are old enough and you are set. And they did ask so they can cover their backs too.
I didn't put in my real birthday (sorry guys) and it was fine. And obviously they have no way of knowing your real age.
"We ask for your date of birth to enable us to apply settings that ensure the best experience for all players. Depending on your age and the country where you live, some features or content may not be available to you until you are older or until you have permission from a parent or guardian."

I get this comes from Epic/Psyionix but this isn't exactly my definition of an 18+ game (or even really a 13+...) and I would really like to know what features are locked off if you're not 18.
...I mean I say that but hey I can just check, so just for our sake I checked, and found that the following is disabled (at least for all Epic games as far as I can tell):
- Communicating with other players use voice or "free" text chat
- Purchasing items with money (That was too obvious)
- Downloading games that are not owned by Epic (???)
- Recommendations based on past activity
- Email marketing or push notifications
- Trades in Rocket League (This is the only one that specifically mentions rocket league in the list)
- Sign in with Epic, including linking accounts to certain external services, such as social media websites or video streaming applications
- Custom display names
- SMS-based two-factor authentication
So... Really its just Communication, Trading and spending Money which gets disabled.
Maybe I'm biased, but the last 17 years or so of using the internet has told me that a majority of youngins aren't gonna be honest with this lol

It doesn't matter what date format your country use.
As TommyEV wrote in comment above they are using American date format which has Month first.
It clearly shows what format they require you to use. I won't judge much as I didn't notice it for like 3 attempts too.
Although it would be better if error message would show something like "please use correct date format Month/Day/Year."
Age generally isn't, but DOB is. A full DOB is Personally Identifiable Information (PII). If they would just ask your age, it would be fine. If a company asks for your full DOB, input false information. My internet birthday is 01/01/[earliest possible year that is allowed by the form] :)
Thank you. I did the same mistake. This makes me feel less stupid :D
