WASD not working on Rocket League

My friend just downloaded rocket league on his laptop and was telling me his WASD keys are not working nore are any of the other alphabetical keys or number keys however Esc, Space bar and Backspace are all working perfectly fine along with the mouse keys. When pressing T or Y (to go into the chat menu) it opens up fine and all keys work for typing a message but replacing the drive forward key with T or Y still wont work for driving the car so this cant be an issue with the keys not working. I tried changing the drive forward and drive backwards keys with mouse button 1 and mouse button 2 and that works but i cant find enough keys that do work to make the game playable for him. I've had a look on a few forums and this seems to be an issue with a few people but with no clear solution and I've tried most of the solutions on his laptop with no luck.
This is on a new windows 10 laptop and there is no controller plugged in (there has never been a controller plugged into this laptop)

Have you tried deleting the ini file with the controls so that the game creates a new one?

Sorry for the late reply,
the problem was solved by him getting a controler but its still an odd issue.
yes i did delete that and still didnt work, the isse isnt fixed but now he has a controller it shouldnt crop up.
