Then it will be given away. What did you expect?

Trading isn't actually trading. So no items are actually given away to someone. It's just turning 5 items into one which is rarer. So I was wondering if the item that will come out of the five would also be painted or not.

I have tested with 1 painted item, and 2 painted items being part of the trade-in, and didn't get a painted back either time. But it might be worth trying with all painted or something as well.

Time will tell. I feel like the only reason for a painted to be tradable would be if it increased the chance of getting a painted back. Otherwise ideky they'd make them tradable given their rarity and the fact that adding 1 or 2 to the trade-ins didn't increase the rarity of what I got back. Maybe it just increases the probability though.

Alright. I just spoke with my friend, he got a painted item by trading only normal items so I guess it's just luck. And I was thinking about it increasing the chance as well.

Well, it could still be just luck and using painted items gets you BETTER luck, but we won't know till we roll those dice a lot more.

Did your friend get a painted item of a higher tier than uncommon though (so either rare or very rare)? I've been wanting to confirm whether they exist. I'm also curious if certified items of higher tiers existed - if so then it's probably best for me to trade in lower items for higher items as often as possible until my first certified to get those 'chievos easier. Basically that would mean that every 5 item drops that aren't certified have the ability to get a 6th chance for free (assuming you only care about whether an item is certified or not).

Yes, he traded five uncommons and got a painted rare one. Take a look if it's public: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=708185442
